There is a lie that the left and the right can agree on reasonable gun control. Although both sides say so, neither side actually believes this.

Fact: The left wants a total ban on guns. Step#1 of achieving that is getting the right to agree to reasonable gun measures. These are measure that take one small step towards a total ban on guns. With each public incident or mass shooting, the left will call for more gun control measures. This will continue in a never ending campaign.

The right will not go along with reasonable gun control measures because they know that the campaign from the left will never cease. And so the right understands that there should be no negotiation on the topic with the left.

This was explained to me recently by a friend, who owns guns, and donates to the NRA.

Take the CA gun roster, which covers which guns can be legally bought/sold in CA. Without any logic, this roster includes certain guns while excluding other guns that function in exactly the same manner. The size of this roster has changed over the years, it’s only gotten smaller.

And so the statement that both sides should be able to agree on reasonable gun reform is a lie because the left will never stop their campaign for a total gun ban. With each incident in the media, the left will continue their campaign to increase restrictions until there is only one law remaining: total ban for civilians.

Neither side will ever trust the other to be reasonable on the topic.

It’s alarming to me how many of my leftist friends and colleagues believe that only police and government should own guns. Frankly, it terrifies me that they do not see any fault with this logic as an American.

“The police will be there to protect me”

“This is the United States of America, not Cambodia. The government will never harm us”

I think this is giving up too much. Unless, that is, the red flag law is tight. Meaning in no way ambiguous. A neighbor can't simply get mad and call the cops to raid your home. A Dr. or at least 3 different people of sound mind and over, at least, 18 years of age.

My fear is that libbies will simply tell "Family" Lawyers and Judges to issue them "liberally" in divorce cases, even in no-faults.

BTW, you shouldn't be able to file no faults with a restraining order, you should be legally required to file a with-fault divorce. Get rid of that trick.

I never can read past something like:

"Fact: The left wants a total ban on guns."

Look, the left may be wrong on gun control, but telling "the left" what THEY (supposedly) want, it's just utter stupidity. It only serves to produce an argument and gets everybody to dig in their heels and stop thinking.

What you need to do with somebody that is in favor of more gun control is simply point out to the person that what they are doing is advocating that the only people that should be armed are people who lied the nation into the Iraq War, blew up Libya, and repeatedly, and falsely, claimed Assad was gassing his own people.

Now, if you want those megalomaniac nuts to be the only group that is armed, you should do some more thinking. We have an entirely criminal government and have had that for more than 2 decades.

And incidentally, if you're on "the right", and object to me pointing out that the Bush adminstration lied us into a war, you ought to consider the possibility that leadership of "the left" and "the right" are entirely corrupt, because they are.

Well, have you been to a Walmart during normal working hours, esp on EBT day? My experience has been squatemalens buying junk food with gibs… results may differ vs your gated enclave.

Let's have a ban on fully automatic weapons that can shoot 600 rounds per minute. Oh, wait, we already do.
48   BayArea   2019 Aug 9, 6:50am

Fully automatic firearms are illegal
Murdering people is illegal

Some people don’t follow laws, and never will. Should there be more laws that take away the freedom of law abiding citizens?

Left can’t meme

Man proposes, lady behind sees it, man with other lady nervous that his lady wants the same thing. China does not want Hong Kong envying the right to bear arms.

Thank you. I haven't been following the Hong Kong events.

OK, that seems to be a real bug. I'll try to figure it out.

@OccasionalCortex this is the problem:

There are two ways that comments can appear on a page on patrick.net:

1. comments are loaded when the whole page is loaded
2. comments are loaded without a page reload (it just pops up) when one user submits a new comment and another user is on that same url

The "instant comment" loading (the second way) does not check the ignores table. If you see a comment by marcus which disappears when you reload the page, then the comment definitely appeared the second way.

It would be kind of hard to fix, but I'll try to think of ways that won't hurt performance much.

There are hate rallies against straight white people, those are the norm in California. Haven't seen a single one the other way, it would be on CNN 24/7 otherwise.

But anyone can still buy a machine gun on the interwebz and have it delivered to their door by UPS no question asked!

Do you really want to live in a world where everyone is a mindless sheep, everyone has the same thinking, and everyone wears the same clothes?

Nah, let's live in Kashmir or Yugoslavia so we can C'mon Feel the Diversity.

Considering the tendency of gun-free zones drawing mass-shooters, the recurrence of mass-stabbers and (attempted) mass-murders using cars plowing into crowds, along with the usual multiple minutes that it takes police to arrive when seconds matter . . . . the only reasonable gun-control policy is: mandatory gun ownership and carry! If the last digit of your SSN matches the last digit of the calendar date, it is your responsibility to carry your gun when out in public! Exempting only the very young, very old and the infirm.

If you want to vote, you have to pass either a shooting range qualification (such as putting at least 50% bullets inside the outermost ring on a target at 25ft with a hand gun, 25yds with a rifle) or pay at least $1000 annual income tax or being at least 75yo. No free-loaders begging for more enslavement.

http://patrick.net/post/1326406/2019-08-09-since-a-vast-majority-of-criminals-get-guns-from-the-underworld

Since a vast majority of criminals get guns from the underworld ... then they're illegally owned and thus, throw 'em in jail, just for that. Is that something that the police along with the DA offices can't pull off?

Do that, again and again, and very soon, you'll see the gun laws work for law abiding citizens.

The problem is enforcement of existing laws.

Not True - any gun transfer must proceed through someone with a Federal Firearms License. You generally pay a small fee for the privilege, and the sale is recorded for the Feds.

Gun advocates, and the NRA, needs to start pushing back just as hard after every mass shooting crissis.
Use the crisis as an excuse to stress why Americans need to be armed to protect themselves more than ever.

Beto argued last week, that if you can have an AR15 then why not a Bazooka? And why not indeed.
When the Left comes after your AR15's, push back and loby for fully automatic weapons. When they come after Bump stocks, lobby for High capacity magazines.
Make it hurt so much every time they bring it up, make them damn sorry they fucked with a good thing. They'll give up eventually. They keep pushing because they think we're Pussies. They are really soft and are the ones that fold and cave, when you push back on them and counter their demands, with your own demands.

I think this is true.

Employers and their union, the US Chamber of Commerce, have profited mightily by relocating US manufacturing to China and importing millions of illegals to drive down wages for menial labor.

Republicans went along with it because they are traditionally the party of business interests.

Democrats were supposed to represent labor, but have been paid off by Wall Street etc to shift their focus from labor issues to tranny bathrooms and to ignore the harms of globalization.

This worked because most Democrats tend liberal, and that kumbaya "we are the world" attitude makes them opposed to national borders which protect the citizens workers within those borders. They would much rather "keep families together" through endless chain migration and openly allowing illegals to break the law with "sanctuary" states and cities.

So what do the poorer half of all workers have on their side? Their guns. The US CoC and liberals know that eventually their anti-labor policies are going to lead to armed revolt as labor realizes that the democratic process has been so corrupted by globalist money that they really have almost no chance through peaceful democratic means of saving their jobs or recovering the living standards they had. Democracy has been a sham, just a show put on to distract the public and make them think they have choice when they actually do not. Elections have all been limited to candidates who support globalists.

And thus the media, wholly owned by the Democratic party and their globalist funders, really want to take those guns away.

The last-ditch effort of citizens to resist through democratic means was the election of Donald Trump. And it does seem to be working. The situation for labor has greatly improved under Trump, and he talks openly about how US workers have been screwed by bi-partisan policies to undercut US manufacturing and wages.
