Ed Wood was an entertaining movie. I've seen every Ed Wood film, even the porn films. The first time I saw Plan 9 I didn't realize that Bela Lugosi had a stand-in. You kind of have to know that in order to understand the film. Before, I thought the two draculas were two different people. You have to love Ed Wood despite his utter incompetence, cross dressing, bad plots, and terrible directing.

Plan 9 would have been a decent film with a competent director and a better budget. It's too bad he wasn't born like 40 years later. Imagine what he'd do with a digital camera? His problem was funding, constantly. One film was recently rediscovered - he couldn't pick it up because he couldn't pay the development costs.

I just watched 'Diamonds Are Forever' online. I don't think I ever saw it before all the way through, just ads and out takes. It was beautiful technicolor film and showed Las Vegas in the good ole days when things weren't so crowded. It even had a segment about a staged faking of the moon landing, and Bond escapes in the 'moon rover' from the set.

Would argue that On Her Majesty's Secret Service was the best Bond film. They are all guilty pleasures. Thunderball was fun as well. When Timothy Dalton started doing it, the series was dead to me. Have no idea if the current films are worth watching.

It's all fantasy anyhow, government works hand and hand with criminal global syndicates. Nobody is riding in on a white horse to save us.

Go watch Fantastic Planet, or La Planète Sauvage - it's an animation and the dubbed English version I think doesn't detract from it. It's mind bending or was 30 years ago. It's just a bit of a trip.

I think Fargo or Blood Simple should have been mentioned in this list. Maybe Shaun of the Dead as well. Difficult to list ten when you've seen thousands. Some are legitimate works of art and you are forced to give them priority. Others are merely brilliant or mind bending. All films I listed, I've seen multiple times. I'd give Earserhead notable mention.

Since we live in times of depraved corruption and lies at all levels of society, press and government, to the point where truth is a savaged victim, a couple of movies adept at illustrating such things would be in order. From the oldies vaults, Bernardo Bertolucci made at least two such films: "The Damned" in reference to Nazi Germany, and "The Conformist" in reference to fascist Italy.

"Chinatown" is pretty classic along the lines of the nature of evil and corruption prevailing in good old Elay, as well as "LA Confidential". "LA Confidential" is interesting because the anti-hero uses tools of corruption against the corrupt establishment, itself, to navigate himself into promotions. What's the message there? If you can't beat 'em, join 'em? Or, you can't get anything done either good or evil without using the tools of each?

Surprised nobody has mentioned "99 Homes". Ok so it's probably not a "favorite" movie, but it's quite a gritty view of the housing crisis around 2008. It was recommended to me by a cousin that does work for the banks, essentially he throws people out of houses. He said to me that the movie was just like his job. In fact, he said his boss even carries a gun, like the boss in the movie.

It's sad that 'LA Confidential' didn't have a chance against 'Titanic' for the Oscar that year because it was a far better film.

Guardians fooled the younger crowd into thinking that they were playing 80s music. At best, the Escape/Pina Colada song was at the cusp of the decade. Much of that soundtrack was pure 70s music.

The Terminator and the Matrix are two of my all time favorites that I occasionally watch again. They were really good science fiction. The sequels were not.

I like the Bond Franchise up until Daniel Craig. The new stuff is a bit too sadistic for me.

If you want some films that demonstrate the music of the 1980s, I'd recommend Donnie Darko and Napoleon Dynamite.

Watch the theatrical cut of Donnie Darko, NOT the director's cut. Beware, Donnie Darko was directed by Richard Kelley - he's a one hit wonder director. That was the ONE film he made that was good. Sort of like Neill Blomkamp and District 9, except Kelley's subsequent films were dreadful.

Croods II was actually pretty funny. I have kids, so I've watched every cartoon movie for the last 10 years.

You can be a homo offender and still a great actor. Klaus Kinski banged every womyn of every ethnicity and was one of the greatest actors. I highly recommend Kinski's auto biography.

Which brings me to "Aguirre, wrath of God". Great movie. Kinski is basically going mad with jungle fever during the movie in the Amazon in reality, while portraying someone going mad with jungle fever in the Amazon. Can't get much better.

It's a (sort of) sequel to The Shining. There's a brutal scene in it, and it's "woke" but not STUPID woke, and I thought it was well done.
