I gotta think that we were always aware of this. So how did we forget it? It's not by chance that drugs and "healthcare " entities advertise so much, every where all the time. Get you all worked up, angry and mad. You're all alone left to stare at the television set and be manipulated. Go ask your doctor about this drug that will likely make your bones itch and your soul bleed out your backside. But you'll feel better than you feel right now, sitting there like a mush, watching the "news".
Remember, it's the liberals that did this to you. You're a victim. The democrats have ruined everything. So naturally, the correct response is to give Republicans power of the entire government. Again. Because, they have such a good track record and all. Believe me, they have good ideas, but The Liberals are stifling their Free Speech. So they can't be heard.
Just like The Liberals passed that terrible PPaca Heritage Foundation legislation. Ruined everything. If we give the Republicans all the power, they will Repeal and Replace it with something better. They've said as much over and over and over again for the better part of the past decade. But Oh Muh Liberal Media is attacking the Republicans, the poor victims those Republicans, and making it impossible for them to Repeal and Replace with their better plan. They have lots of good ideas if only The AltLeft Liberals would stop keeping the Republicans from Repeal and Replace.
If only we vote Republicans all the time into complete powers, then and only then will we be able to be better humans! So long as The Freaks and Wierdos Liberal Bastards keep us Angry and Afraid, we're fucked. So Sad
Don't you think you're showing some of the same distrust and divisiveness on your own part right there?
Anger ,Anxiety,Resentment,Stress,"distrust and divisiveness"
What are you trying to do do with the phrase "Basic Humanity", destroy Patnet? lol
The Freaks and Wierdos Liberal Bastards keep us Angry and Afraid
keeping the Republicans from Repeal and Replace.
Rep/Con/Neo-Nazis are forced to feel bad.
They have no say in their emotions. They have no self control at all.
Trump /Republicans are sending me their R & R plan, including how they will pay for it &
how many Republicans will lose ins. & with that healthcare.
MAGA X 10, U.S.A.! U.S.A.! U.S.A.!
Don't you think you're showing some of the same distrust and divisiveness on your own part right there?
Absolutely. A lifetime of being harmed by the State will do that to people, don't you think?
It's how relationships work. The person inflicting the harm has to stop inflicting harm, and apologize, or at least acknowledge what they've done. Is there any other way?
I don't advocate any action that causes innocent Americans to be harmed. Rather the opposite is true: I always advocate removing a layer of complexity, on the belief that doing nothing is usually better than doing something harmful. I guess that's how I define freedom.
I also don't suffer from the ailments in your header, aside from normal momentary bouts of them like any other human. I apply "Whatever You Do, Do It Well" to being a good human. It pays incredible dividends, so it confuses me why others don't naturally do it as well

Do you think only one side is inflicting harm?

I know that one side is powerless, and the other side literally has absolute power.
I know that me and my ideas are not harming anyone. I can't say the same of anyone that puts themselves on the opposite side.
We get to pick sides. I choose to oppose those who inflict harm on others. That's how I understand the spirit of our country, and believe it to be axiomatic to freedom: First, do no harm.
I know that one side is powerless, and the other side literally has absolute power.
Really? Please explain.
A lifetime of being harmed by the State will do that to people
Actually, I think it's up to the individual to make his own satisfying life. I don't think the State can do diddly squat. If you're going to be unhappy, the State isn't going to change that state for you.

That's true. But consider the media. Journalists are something like 93% Democrats. And probably about the same proportion of university professors. And look at tech billionaires like Jeff Bezos, Zuckerberg, etc. So the "absolute power" of Republicans seems exaggerated.
But again, this is being divisive. I'd rather not.
Could there be a viable "Unity Party" which concentrates on unifying everyone as Americans alone, and minimizes or takes no position on divisive issues? Or is it a contradiction to have a Unity Party, since a political party by definition divides people into those who are in it and those who are not?
Early humans could not have survived competition from more plentiful and powerful predators without banding together in emotionally-bonded social units to defend and hunt collectively. Small, emotionally-bonded, cooperative communities became the natural order of human social organization.
Everything about morality comes from evolution. Nothing comes from any god.

No there cannot.
The reason is socialists and communists have gained financial footing in US politics, primarily due to George Soros. Their intent is clear, via George Soros funded groups intent on helping people immigrant from third world nations to the us, largely illegally.
Supported by the msm and people who actively hate the US such as Jorge Ramos, it is a clear effort to demolish US culture and laws. The crazy ass people like Michael savage were actually correct.
So no, as long as people like Soros have such a strong financial grip on one of the major US political parties and as long as the msm is complicit in presenting news in a manner that ignores the destruction of us culture and law, there cannot be a "unity".
Most telling in how disingenuous Errc is is that he utterly ignores:
1.) Antifa is financed in its violence.
2.) msm completely ignores the Antifa violence
3.) democrats held all three branches multiple times in the past century. By Errc's logic, the democrats as the lone majority party must have posed substantial threat to America...and by extension must also be extremely incompentent as America wasn't actually demolished in any manner.
Thanks for sharing Patrick. I found this quote particularly telling.
"Basic humanity is easier for individuals to maintain in smaller communities of people who seem to be alike. The mammalian brain, a better safe-than-sorry organism, distrusts differences. The human bias is to distrust people who look different, believe different things, have different values. "
Never before in the United States has there been more diversity of beliefs and values. These drastic differences in beliefs and values makes it difficult for people to display "basic humanity." It shows in the lack of respect and the level of venom in public discourse as well as how people treat one another on the roadways, at public events, and yes on this board.
As a rule, people are less violent today (with a few obvious exceptions) but that is probably because for the most part everyone has their basic needs provided for in this country. But the distrust and hatred caused by tribalism is growing by the day. It is sad that people can't even have a "free speach rally" without bringing out counter protestors. Americans are now protesting free speech and the president is supporting the protestors against free speech. What a shame.
Donald J. Trump ✔ @realDonaldTrump
I want to applaud the many protestors in Boston who are speaking out against bigotry and hate. Our country will soon come together as one!

And what in the world happened to that asinine "love Trumps hate" slogan
(What happened to Quote on this thread?)
Sorry, new version of the site broke Quote and a bunch of other things. Reverting to the old site for now, so you should see quote again.

You left off the part that followed:
A Condition for Personal Growth
Basic humanity allows us to grow beyond the limitations of personal experience and prejudice. If out of touch with basic humanity for too long, we become locked in a prison of the self. The sense of self grows fragile, in constant need of validation by others, intolerant of differences, resentful, anxious, or angry. Other people matter only to the extent that they validate our (inherently biased) experience. We feel less humane.
In touch with basic humanity, we become smarter about the world around us and our relationship to it. There’s an intrinsic reward for this increase in vision; the more in touch with basic humanity, the more humane we feel.
There was a time when prejudice against Italians, Irish, Catholics and other kinds of "others" was just as intense as prejudice and fear of blacks and mexicans in the more monotone parts of the country today. That line in the George Harrison song is true, "Not too many people, can see we're all the same."
Isn't it a pity.

That line in the George Harrison song is true, "Not too many people, can see we're all the same."
If so, why so many identity groups lately?
If so, why so many identity groups lately?
Really ? That's pretty trollish. You could tell me. Let me preface my answer by saying, I don't like identity politics, because it works against progress, due to the reactions of those furthest from understanding that we're all the same. We should unite around the most important economic and job related issues at least in the political sphere. Issues that a super majority of us can easily get behind.
But the answer is complicated. For one thing, those identity groups don't feel the same. They feel there is prejudice against them. I could go on, but why. You accidently posted something pretty good Patrick, but you may choose not to get what was meant by the line we're all the same in the song.
You're right Patrick. We don't all have penises. We aren't all polite. We aren't all criminals. We aren't all poor, We aren't all "job creators"(i.e 1 percenters), We aren't all intelligent. We aren't all empathetic. We aren't all compassionate. We aren't all kind (even offline). So you're right, we aren't all the same.
And yet the humane people the author refers to see it that way. It's an abstract thing. A potential when we're born. We're all the same - including our differences. But hey, it was your link. Maybe those humane people are lying to themselves huh Patrick when they think we're all the same ? But at least they move towards creating a better reality.
I know that me and my ideas are not harming anyone. I can't say the same of anyone that puts themselves on the opposite side.
@errc So the bricks and bottles being thrown by the left at the Trump rally yesterday were not harming anyone?
What about the black Trump supporter that got punched in the face?
Why did the police have to use tear gas to break up such a harmless mob?
Legislative

ADDITIONALLY
Media counts as power in a big way. The world's most centralized capitalists control every message we hear. That's why it is so important to claim that it is liberal, that way the resistance can't exist. Everybody everywhere "knows" those 5-6 billionaire families are liberals. And don't forget to mention George Soros, the father of all evil. All we need now is an emergency to trigger the shut down of all criticism and other Unamerican publications. The world's power is already seated on the president's staff he will do as told when necessary.
Everyone sees this now.
Yea butt wut about the couple hundred wimpy anti fascists armed with sticks, and the people that organized to speak out against the police brutally murdering the blacks?
Don't you know they have the most power? That they are the biggest threat to Freedom! That they are terrorizing all the Republican supporters and suppressing all the unique, original, and important ideas?
Freedom is dead. The left has one. A lot of good all those guns did in the hands of the Great Americans that spoke out constantly against the left!
Actually, I think it's up to the individual to make his own satisfying life. I don't think the State can do diddly squat. If you're going to be unhappy, the State isn't going to change that state for you.
So simple and true yet so elusive for most.
Muh oppression, what a load of crock. All that virtue-signaling bullshit is based on fake news media fanning the flames of a mostly illusory fire. Instead of coming together and treating each other with respect for their civil liberties - which includes the freedom to disagree - people are just flinging an amorphous mass of leftoid manure in each other's faces. Or, as Charles Barkley put it: "I'm 54 years old. I've never thought about those statues a day in my life. I think if you ask most black people, to be honest, they ain’t thought a day in their life about those stupid statues." Political correctness is the biggest scourge of the 21st century.
