The Shaggs - Philosphy of the World

The comments are a hoot. E.g., "Ah, you play guitar in a band? Are you lead or rhythm?"
"Yes."

916   stereotomy   2025 Mar 10, 6:03pm

I sent that to the members of the band. They hated Samantha Fish's "War Pigs." Go figure - now I punish them.

The Shaggs - as if anyone would shag them.

Decades later, I'm sure Liz Phair discovered this album and used it for her inspirational lo-fi album "Exile in Guyvile." "Fuck and Run" sounds a lot like this shit.

Truck Turner is an awesome movie - you get to see Uhura from Star Trek chewing up the scenery as a homicidal brothel madam. She even channels Eartha Kitt with a purring evil delivery.

One good thing about music, when it hits, you feel no pain.

Ha, ha. No, actually they played right before Collective Soul. Only Ed Kowalczyk remains from the original band. Our Lady Peace opened. There were actually a handful of people in the audience who knew the lyrics to their songs. Collective Soul probably set new decibel levels for the CNMV amphitheater. Great show.

I never used to like Dwight Yoakam much. I heard his version of Dim Lights Thick Smoke and it’s just amazing. I went back and gave his music a lot of listening to. I didn’t know what I’ve been missing. He’s incredible. Love digging back and hearing music that is new to me.

It’s how I discovered Waylon Jennings in the late 90’s when I was in my 20’s. My uncle had passed and my dad had a few of his possessions which included tapes of most of Waylon’s 1970’s releases. All I could think was how had I never heard most of that music.

Outlaw Country on Sirius has been a revelation to me.

Dwight’s got his own Sirius station - Dwight Yoakam and the Bakersfield Beat. Very educational as he reaches way back sometimes to play early artists. He has to play Buck Owens, which he does.

We used to gig on Fast as You back in the day. He was great as the asshole boyfriend in Slingblade (that Billy Bob Thornton movie from the early 90's). The garage band scene always cracked me up.

I don't dislike this song. I'm a drummer and it's nothing special and know plenty of guitarist is all I'll say. It's a basic metal song that has been mixed and recorded well. I'm sure it's not like that live though. That's generally how I base music on. I don't like album music, I know how they're made.
