It's happening again: The temperature at the North Pole is projected to spike to around the melting point, or 32 degrees Fahrenheit, on Wednesday into Thursday, despite the complete lack of sunshine that far north in December.
Such temperatures would be about 50 degrees above average for this time of year, exceeding the color scale on some weather maps.
50 degrees Fahrenheit above normal and almost melting ice in the north pole during winter. That sure puts the whole "who cares about 1 degree global warming" argument in perspective. It's so not uniformly distributed.
If the ice melts during the winter, it's basically going to all go away. And that means substantial sea-level rise and the flooding of tens of trillions of dollars of real estate in the U.S. alone and the displacement of tens of millions of Americans and the businesses they work for. So no, it's not in our economic interest to ignore climate change. Why are conservatives so god-damn stupid when it comes to economics?
