The two countries have long been at odds, but Saudi Arabia's execution of Shiite cleric Nimr al-Nimr Saturday kicked off a new round of sparring between them that analysts say could mark a dangerous shift in an already volatile region.

"I think you're going to see a period of very harsh rhetoric, and the cutting of diplomatic ties comes at a very bad time. ... This is Saudi Arabia saying, 'The gloves are off,' " said Bobby Ghosh, a CNN global affairs analyst and managing editor of Quartz.

What about Iraq and Pakistan? Ties with them should be severed too.
Obama condemns Saudi Arabian executions. I like Obama. He is intelligent, pro science, anti pollution, and anti religion. But his thinking towards Islam is deeply flawed. :(

Who do Muslims hate more? Each other or the infidels?

I'm kinda surprised that Saudi Arabia and Iran had any relations to break off.

Iraq isn't really a country. Not sure what it is. Part Sunni (Arab and Kurdish), part Shiite Arab, and some remaining scattered Christian and other minorities in great danger of death from Islam lately.

Pakistan is mostly Sunni like the Saudis are. So aside from being very racist against the Pakis and Bangladeshis (Arabs feel superior to brown people) the Saudis don't mind them.

Saudi logic-lets chop off some Shiite heads. Oh lets get mad and sever relationship with the Shiite country! yeah they never make sense-but Obama and Hilalry both grovel at their feet and Bush is their dog-Trump must bug them?

Long since time to put the Saudis in their place.

Unfortunately, DC is full of politicos receiving wanton wealth from the House of Saud.

Another great issue for Trump to absolutely wipe the floor with Hillary on. Her and Bill are as deeply committed to the KSA as the Bushes.

Can we give Iran back its nukes if it promises to nuke Mecca?

Occam's Razor would indicate that is true. It is amazing how little attention this gets!

Iraq is a random line in the sand drawn by the brits. Before 1923 it was the sunni region, the shia region, and the kurdish region. The British promised Arabs in Iraq, Syria and Palestine independence for their help in WWI. After providing their assistance, the promise was rescinded. The Allies redrew the boundaries in the Mid-East, establishing the modern borders of Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon. Iraq was awarded to the British (British Mandate of Mesopotamia). Syria and Lebanon were awarded to France. Palestine was also awarded to the British, which included Jordan. The brits held onto iraq through control of the Faisel monarchy and almost continuous peacekeeping/war until 1958 when the Iraq army killed the Faisels and threw the brits out. Someone in the Bush administration should have looked at how things worked out for the brits before invading. History repeats. Historical note, the brits invented the concept of strategic bombing of civiliians in Iraq post WWI. Charchill actually preferred poison gas to bombing as being more humane. .

Kurds are both sunni and shia as well as christian and yezidi.

I'm not sure the Royal family truly understands exactly how big that gigantic can of whoop ass is, that's about to blow up in their faces.
They've gotta be truly deluded if they think they could take Iran in a normal war. So my guess is that somebody is putting them up to this. Any guesses as to who that 'somebody' might be? Think BANKERS.
