It's not because I'd be worried that the transgender person is going to attack my daughter... Frankly, I wouldn't be worried that most boys would ever attack my daughter. Neither she nor I would be comfortable showering in front of some random guy, period. My son is eleven and I ask him to leave the bathroom when I'm taking a shower. Not because I think he's ogling me. It just makes me uncomfortable. He's becoming a young man. It's just not appropriate. My husband doesn't shower in front of our eleven year old daughter, either. Yet, I don't have a problem if my daughter is in the bathroom chatting me up while I'm showering. Some of you want to act like it doesn't matter. But it seems like a pretty basic instinct to me to want to cover oneself when confronted with members of the opposite sex (in the absence of a sexual relationship, obviously.

And that's her right. I've taught my son to respect a woman's privacy. It's still a work in progress, cuz he barges in on me all the time... It has nothing to do with shame... or a human body being evil... But it's just rude for a man to just walk in a women's bathroom. You have to have permission, right? Well, unless every girl is okay with it, he doesn't have permission. They do have a right to choose whom they strip down in front of. In fact, stripping down in front of random people is a tactic used to break people. Making POWs stand naked in front of their captors is done because EVERYONE feels vulnerable in that situation. Is it really so far fetched that young girls might feel vulnerable changing in front of boys?

This whole topic of pushing African jungle culture onto modern society is a byproduct of liberal inherited ancestral guilt.

I'm one step ahead of you. I asked my daughter last night what she thought of a transgender boy using her locker room. She said, "he's a boy; he can't go in there." I then asked her what if the school said s(he) is allowed... She said she would never change in there again. My son is at Young Marines. I'll have to ask him later.... He's becoming more and more interested in looking at women these days, however... I suspect we're going to get some silly answer about seeing boobies.

I've explained it all to her. She understands that there are people who feel that they are trapped in the wrong body. I'm pretty up front with the kids. She understands that reassignment is a process.

I think the issue is probably bigger, however, if everyone knew this person to be a "boy" at one point. That's hard to forget. Perhaps transgenders should be homeschooled until the change is complete... then go to a new school where they will only ever be known as what they claim to be. But the change cannot be in progress, as it exposes young girls to things that they may not be ready for. My daughter hasn't seen a naked man outside of her immediate family. That would be shocking to her. Call it cultural, call it whatever. It's the reality of our society. I'm not going to scar my daughter so some confused kid can feel he is in the right locker room. I'm sensitive to his pain, however, my daughter has rights, too, including a right to hold onto her innocence.

I just can't see one bathroom for both sexes ever working.
1. Men's bathrooms always stink. Men are filthy. They pee all over the place. I doubt if any woman would want to sit on a potty soiled by a hundred sloppy men.
2. Sex crimes would increase. Using the same bathroom makes it easier for women to be attacked.
3. Prostitution would increase. We don't need that near children.

I take it you've never been in a women's bathroom. In my (limited) experience they are way grosser than men's bathrooms. And I'm not even sure why.

Someone in the renovation/remodeling business told me once it usually takes them longer to fix up apartments where women lived in vs those inhabited by men, with the female bathrooms being the toughest rooms to remodel.
