This is dedication and good values. He could have stayed home on welfare, but chose to do this. 12 straight years of perfect attendance. Wow.
You can't help but respect a man like him.
Yeah, and when he gets home from work, he doesn't have to exercise!
I wonder why he doesn't ride a bicycle?
Obligatory comment about how it was a Honda that broke down on him.
"..Robertson apparently has perfect attendance record. He earns $10.55 an hour -- not enough to save up to buy, insure and run a car in the city, according to the newspaper."
The GoFundMe site is at $187K right now (in two days) as I type this...
That's 8.5 years of salary for him at his current rate!
He could buy a mansion with that kind of money in Detroit. He is a role model for all those bums who refuse to work, and commit crimes.
He should be honored in the next State of the Union speech. What a guy.
At 15 minutes per mile, that would be 2 and a half hours of walking twice day each way in good, flat conditions. Five and a half hours of walking for one day on the job?
I say BS, urban mythology for a knee jerk sympathy plea. Looks like it's working as the bucks flow in.
Just checked... It's up to $235K as I type this!!
People must feel so guilty about lazily driving to work that they feel obliged to donate and turn this guy into a Tesla-driving-couch-potato in order to remove the cognitive dissonance.
With a Hummer, he can run down all the other squalorous people walking to work and the ones who are just walking.

And a Medicare scooter.
You guys make me sick. This guy is a role model for every decent human being, and you mock him. :(

Looks like it is.... While the knuckleheads here travel every day and sit in their cubicles at work surfing Patnet as wage slaves, this guy will be laughing all the way to the bank, as he cruises down the street in his new Ferrari!

He could end up with a million dollars. He might just decide to retire in Sunny California.
He can engage in putangi bangy in the back seat while chortling over all the lame suckers on the internet.
Wow and in Detroit-with that much snow too. See, the 300 pound welfare freaks have someone to look up to.
Nobody picked up on the details here...
I wonder how this guy gets by with only 3 or 4 hours of sleep each day?
If he walks around 6 hours and works 9 hours, he should get enough sleep.
Something also tell me he did not walk every single day for the last 10 years as the article implies. The media can blow things way out of proportion.
BTW, the fund is up to $277K right now.
From $10.00 per hour to $10,000 per hour. Now that's what I call a minimum rate increase.
If he walks around 6 hours
I can see math isn't your strong suit.
If he leaves at 8AM and gets to work at 12:30, that's 4.5 hours.
He leaves work at 10 PM and gets home at 4 AM, that's 6 hours.
Total commute time is 10.5 hours. Plus, he's at work 9.5 hours.
You must do math differently in CA???
21 miles roundtrip will not take 10.5 hours. Is he walking or crawling?
This is how Californians answer math problems...
Robertson, whose 46-mile daily round-trip commute by foot and bus came to the world’s attention this past week, will be driving to work in a new Ford Taurus. The 56-year-old Detroit factory worker received the car as a gift from a local dealership on Friday.

You are a hero James, and I would put most of that money towards retirement.
Hey, look at the car dealers...Do they have their hands in James pockets?
We should all take 50% paycuts and walk 20 miles to work to create a saver's economy!

Walking 20 miles/day would certainly help the economy by dramatically reducing the cost of lack-of-exercise induced conditions even though it would cause a couple more knee/shin/joint/foot injuries. It would also reduce the addiction to consumption of crappy goods and services and processed foods nobody needs. Plus nobody needs a McMansion to impress their neighbors if they spend all day outdoors anyways. Win-win!
I'm guessing that he rents in the Detroit area if he only makes $10 an hour. Rochester Hills? I use to work there doing some IT work for Henry Ford Healthcare. A really nice area with plenty of rentals. Auburn Hills right next door is also a nice area.
The Detroit Free Press is your typical far left newspaper. Take it for what it's worth.
The man is too stupid to buy a $20 bike at garage sale and cut his commute time in half but smart enough to set up a gofundme campaign? Anybody wants to buy a nice bridge?

Somebody else set it up for him when they learned about his story.

Hmmm.... There is no account set up "for him" on indiegogo yet, right? Wait here, I'll be back...

(CNN)There are tiring commutes. And then there's James Robertson's commute.
The 56-year-old Detroit man walks 21 miles every weekday as part of his journey to and from the factory where he works.
