Even after the Supreme Court struck down such laws as unconstitutional in 2003, many states still have related statutes on the book.

So yes, you *can* still be arrested for attempted buggery (NOT burglary!). Even though the charge may likely be dropped, it is still an injustice.

Hey, some states still technically ban blowjobs between consenting heterosexual adults. This is why even homophobes ought to be outraged.

I've told this to Strategist many times. That he commits crimes he doesn't even know he's committing and therefore is a criminal with no rights by his standards.

IMHO, LAWRENCE V. TEXAS is one of the most important recent decisions of the SCOTUS.

Alas there is no limit on the number or word length of statutes that can be enacted, nor how many areas of human activity they can penalize. The federal government can even penalize inactivity now, i.e. not buying something - "Thanks Obamacare!" As the number of prohibitions and penalties increases inevitably beyond human reckoning, we must get in the habit of repealing at least one prohibition for each new one enacted. Otherwise, I suspect the structure risks inevitably collapsing of its own weight. Since we have already more prohibitions than anyone can keep track of, and since legislators swear an oath to uphold the constitution, they should at a minimum repeal all the officially unconstitutional statutes.

I just don't know why people are so puritan.

This isn't "Puritan" Peter, it's just common sense that liberals dont like.

Only a puritan will see puritan absurdities as common sense.

I'm not a Puritan, it's just odd to see liberals who see their absurdities as common sense.

Peter, if everyone would be allowed to do everything they wanted the way liberals do, our nation would collapse in a day, way faster than Roman empire.

That comment tells you more than you probably wanted to know about what Forthood secretly wants.

I suspect the Roman Empire collapsed because somebody started putting cream in the Carbonara. :-)

I definitely prefer order over chaos. However, consensual sex between adults harms no one.

Rome rose as a republic with freedom of religion, continued to prosper as an empire, then became Christian, then fell.

Forthood's church told him that his desires are wrong, horribly wrong, and he searches endlessly for false reasons to believe them, and he demands big government must save him from the devil inside.

Can we stop with the comparisons to ancient Rome?

Rome, during the early days of the Republic and throughout the Pax Romana of the empire & beyond, were having orgies and the empire didn't magically collapse.

The decline and fall of the empire was the result of a phenomena similar to what's happening today ... Rome outsourced the defense of their perimeters, to barbarian mercenaries. Eventually, the barbarians got their own ideas and the central power structure of Rome withered and you had independent nations all over the place, outside of the eastern Roman/Byzantine Empire, which BTW, lasted till the late 1400s.
