The movie, which started streaming online around 1 p.m. ET, costs $5.99 to rent and $14.99 to buy. So it is having historic simultaneous release in both living rooms and, come Christmas Day, about 300 independently-owned theaters across the United States. Sony announced the digital release just an hour ahead of time, after CNNMoney and other news organizations began to report on the studio's plans to distribute "The Interview" through YouTube's movie rental store. Word spread via social media, and some curious fans started watching -- and live-tweeting -- the movie right at 1 p.m. Sony's extraordinary announcement encapsulated days...

You know if there never was any hullabaloo over this movie, it probably would have came and went in the movie rotation, then made the DVD/BlueRay circulation then hit the premium cable, and end up in the Netflix library. And still be one of those cheesy stupid movies I never saw, and skip over in the Netflix library day after day.

HOW EVER!!!

I like this and it sets a great precedence. I've been sick of theaters for a long damn time, and ditched cable for the same money grubbing greedy reasons. Seeing how I'm a big fan of streaming internet programing upending big Cable, I also like the idea of movies being made in Hollywood and going straight to online Rental.

I'm tempted just be a part of this historic event, with the hope and intent, that many more intentional releases would be to follow in the not so distant future.

No spoilers. :-)

I wish there could be more Lizzy Caplan though.

The movie gets thumbs down on the AF-o-Meter.

No log splitters, stump fucking, skull fucking, beatings with the wet ends of torn off limbs? No crowds of starving North Koreans liberating the ersatz Kimfuck's cheese lockers?

Sheesh, Seth whatjmacallit and his stoner buddy just don't have to cojones to make a real Kimfuck epic.

12   Ceffer   2014 Dec 24, 4:29pm

They could have at least had ersatz Kimfuck choking while giving a blowjob to an ersatz Dennis Rodman smoking a cigar and drag queening in a wedding dress.

After watching most of the "This Is The End" abortion, I suspect that anything Franco and Rogen film together will be as awful and pointless. I wanted to laugh but was just disgusted and pissed off that I rented it. I half wonder if this whole thing isn't an attempt at viral marketing for a movie that is probably so terrible that they don't dare prescreen it to anyone with more than a fifth grade education.

Yes, a high probability. I am wondering if NK ever really commented on it or Sony just got someone to ring up the papers and claim they were from the North Korean interests section or something and they were really mad about the movie and then faked the data breach.

The White House has stated North Korea was responsible. I doubt Sony would even try to fool around with them. The CEO would end up in prison.
