One of the most important indicators of social mood is social behavior. As deflation begins to grip the European Union with ever greater force, it shouldn't be surprising that people affected by the falling prices which accompany deflation will act out as they panic about their futures.

Well that will most certainly increase the prices. Idiots, if you want to burn something AND get your price increase then burn the vegetables, make the scarce and then watch the prices rise - makes me wonder if France has common core curriculum', that would be the kind of stupid solution that 'common core curriculum' would suggest.

More free trade, more cheap imports from China should solve the problem. That seems to be the globalists only solution.

I miss when poor farmers grew crops and were damn happy to get 50 cents a bushel of corn, and their biggest sales were made on the side of the road, and not in a boardroom of Walmart and Wholefoods.

I miss when farmers were likely to have a finger missing and wore the same overalls for months at a time.

Has farming ever been economically viable? Apparently the long-term business strategy is to hope your neighbors will commit suicide first during bad years, so prices will stabilize and you will be able to eat again.

Government price supports and subsidies have failed to fix this.

Seems like during good times of low yields relative to demand, that farmers still can't charge prices which will allow them to save massive cash for the lean times? Or are the lean times just too few and far between, so that farmers grow complacent? Or are they just stupid, like most people?

Are there any farmers who pound away massive savings during good times? If I were a farmer, I would starve myself during good times for the sake of saving every cent.

In areas of Oregon, that was the case. Down here in Texas I see it a lot too.

So people get upset about rising prices, falling prices, and stagnant prices. What the hell do they want?

Can't they innovate out of the rut?

The decline of a society begins when its citizens put imaginary ideals above economic freedom.

Oh you mean like Obama and his supporters.

Or ideals like "economic freedom" above basic pragmatism.

Economic freedom is the only pragmatic ideal.

Well, when you impose sanctions on one of your largest customers... and they respond...

Ha ha ha. If they burn buildings, the buildings will cost more, not the vegetables. Yup, they sure are idiots.
They complain when prices go up, and they complain when prices go down. Fucking whiners!

Why can't we buy from them? Here in California fruit prices due to the drought are horrendous. We love juicing, but at these damn prices it's cheaper to just get it from Jamba Juice.

Normally well-behaved and upstanding people, caught in a deteriorating economic environment, the farmers have resorted to protesting against the government of France, demanding, with violence, that something be done.

"Well-behaved"... is this a joke? Protesting anything (including market prices) and sabotaging public infrastructure is a national past time for farmers in France.

Just google "manifestation agriculteurs" to get a sense of it.
