She can't seem to figure out how to make enough money to have any kind of fun, but that's not surprising because rents have risen extremely rapidly in South Florida. Off the subject, Cuba is completely fucked. I sent the girl some money to buy Christmas dinner and she spent a couple days searching for ingredients to buy, including standing in line. Cuba has a real food shortage and the electricity goes off for 8 or more hours almost daily.

It's really amazing to me that the girls in La Paz seem to get by somehow, but they work a real lot just to live.

One girl I met works as a chambermaid in the day, then goes and cleans AirBnbs until evening. On her day off, she's a caregiver for her brother who has a mental disability. What amazes me is she's cheerful and nice to be around; I would not be if I were in her shoes.
