TORRANCE, Calif. (KABC) -- Toyota is moving its U.S. headquarters from Torrance to Texas, the automaker announced on Monday. The move is expected to begin in 2017.

In February, Texas Gov. Rick Perry launched a campaign to lure California businesses away and visited California twice to speak to Toyota officials. Perry said the state offered Toyota $40 million in incentives from the taxpayer-funded Texas Enterprise Fund.

It was announced earlier this year that the LA metro area is the worst performing metro area for job growth in the last 20 years behind even Cleveland and Detroit, and the pain doesn't stop coming with Toyota announcing today that it will be moving it's USA headquarters to Texas.

and retirees seeking great weather.

People move to California to retire???? That does not make any sense to me.

Nope. They tend to move instead to either Phoenix, which is hotter than hell and basically nobody goes outdoors for half of the year, or they move to Florida, which is also hotter than hell, humid, and... well... its florida. Those places make way more sense than moving to a state that generally has mild, warm, and pleasant weather for most of the year...

Actually, many of them become snow birds and spend the winters in either AZ or FL and the summers in a more temperate climate up north.

It also has HIGH taxes, where as FL has no income taxes. CA has high prices, high prices for cost of living and property cost. Weather isn't everything, and in many cases it's cheaper to live the winter in florida (with no income tax) and the summer in say, South Dakota or Washington which also have no income tax. Face it, CA is just flat an expensive (and becoming more expensive) place to live.

I can speak from some real-life experiences here when I say that out of all of the states in the country, FL has to be about my least favorite. I am originally from the South and every time we went to FL I couldn't believe how outright awful the weather was. That's saying a lot from someone who already lived in a state that was hot and humid by most people's standards.

The other thing I really didn't like about FL was that yes- a TON of snowbirds move there, either full time or for the winters. As a result there are untold zillions of generic suburban areas, filled with shopping malls and so on. It gives the area an air of boredom and monotony. About 75% of the state has nothing going for it at all. And when you get to the actual nice areas- as in places like the Florida keys- you might as well pay for California prices since its about the same amount.

Oh- and Hurricanes...

Is it? Amazing you mention that its flat seeing as how some of the largest mountain chains in the country -aka- the Sierras, Lassan, and the Yosemite areas are within Cali. Anyway, if others want to leave Cali for Fl.... More power to em! Just means more room for the rest of us...

If I had the choice of living in Torrance or Texas I would never pick Texas.
Toyotass is putting its people through unnecessary hell.

Uh, no. Forcing people to live with the liberal whack jobs in CA and the HIGH HIGH HIGH taxes and prices is hell. But you voted for it, so enjoy.

It's all Brown's fault!!!

Toyota knows that saving 10% on taxes right off the bat is a good business decision.

Apple is doing the same thing building a gigantic office in Austin.

Rick Perry is a murderer. He should burn in hell, if only there was one.

Moving to Texas isn't a vote for Rick Perry, it's a vote against being screwed by California taxes.

Say Dan, why don't you send some money out here? You aren't paying your "fair share" of state income taxes in Florida. California could sure use some money.

We have a lot of mexican anchor babies who need formula out here. Come on don't be a racist.

Yeah, but then you are living in Florida half the year and South Dakota the other half.

Having lived in Kentucky, the Bay Area and Colorado, I can attest to how significant weather is to quality of life.

The people who retire to California probably do care about the weather...and more importantly, they can afford to live there. If you are rich, why would you live in South Dakota? There might be reasons to, but saving money probably isn't a very common one.
