I got this from a Realtor who has show me around Santa Cruz in 2003--prices for a shack in the woods were around $350K then.

"I wanted to give you a heads-up - I have a new listing coming up, in a great location - just a few minutes walk from the beach, shopping, restaurants - it's pretty incredible. It's a 2 bedroom, 1.5 bathroom house, just under 1,000 square feet. Check it out:

This home is NOT yet on the MLS - so it's a great opportunity to check out this home before the crowd gets there. As it's not on the MLS, we haven't yet set a price - in fact, we're doing a contest...anyone who comes and sees the house can enter to win a $100 Amazon gift card. After it sells, whoever is closest to the actual sales price gets the gift card. Cool, huh?
We're doing an open house on Sunday, February 23 from 1 to 4 PM. If you or anyone you know is looking for a "starter" home in Aptos, come check it out!"

Whoever did that roof needs to be investigated. "New 40-year roof" Ha!

You think that's bad. Try online dating.

"..the home is QUIET inside, snug and tight"

That's a pretty cute way of saying tiny and cramped.

Lifestyle-depending, though, it could be just enough. I wish I was cool enough to live in a place that size. Just enough room for my beer, a radio, a bed, listerine and my motorbike. As things stand, I could just about fit all my socks in there with enough room for a shoehorn or two.

Try the female sex-offender maps. Mostly nice ladies on the rebound, looking for a good man who won't judge them. There oughtta be some pretty rich waters there in Florida.

It sits literally 100 ft from a 4-lane freeway. It's even visible from the freeway on Google Streetview. Quiet, my ass.

Also very far set back from its service street. I'm not even sure where the access is.

If it has a full sized basement and attic that's really fine. Having said that, I doubt it has that.

Will it be listed for any more than that now though? I see a number of better looking properties listed in that area for around the 400-450k mark.

@Bigsby I'm sure they are going for around $450 plus. If it doesn't make it, they may just pop it off the market. I've followed several SC properties that come off the MLS after sitting for more than a month.

There are a couple of larger properties a bit further down the freeway listed for around the 400k mark, but of course prices vary from street to street. That location is going to keep the price down a bit I'm sure, but I own a house in Monterey and houses dangling right on the edge of route 1 around the Mar Vista area still manage to command prices of $500k+. I couldn't live with the noise.

When we were kids and anyone one of our gang would indulge in something stupid, we'd razz the offender by muttering something along the lines of: "maybe this (whatever useless purchase/gesture/designer breed dog/new haircut, whatever) will win her back."

"...maybe this really fine attic will win her back."
