If you stockpile the wrong foods, you could be setting your family up to starve. It sounds harsh, but the truth is too many people with good intentions are making critical mistakes with their food stockpiles.

I've been expecting this next crash for 5 years already, but it doesn't come. I'm really amazed at that.

Is there any fund where a 401k can be vested that is guaranteed not to lose money?

Everywhere you read about this next crash it seems lately.

As long as interest rates are that low the stock market is a decent deal, better than housing as you can at least sell fast with the stampeding heard when they start rushing for the exits. People have to grow their money somewhere, and it's not by savings or other "safe" vehicles. You have to wait for the Fed to stop printing and/or rates to rise by themselves to a level where it makes more sense to put your money into savings accounts again.

Bitcoins arent the future? says

I've looked into it, and you can open a e-trade 401k that allows much more diverse investment options. But you still can't cash out...

You can always cash out, but you will have to pay the penalty and taxes. You may still come out ahead if you trade for yourself after taking the initial hit, it's not hard to outperform most financial bozos. Plus taxes are likely going to be higher in the future, with administrations like these almost guaranteed. I can put those interested in contact with a decent innovative hedge fund in CA, but since they cannot advertise (by law), I would only do this via PM.

There are no guarantees in life. It's just risk vs reward.

You can roll it into a self directed ira and invest in whatever you want.

Yes, or just take your family out to dinner at the dumpster behind the local Arbys.

Just take the family out to a nice restaurant, and let the kids do the dishes.
