Mine flashes a quick alert, but then it fades almost as quickly as I realize that I just got a text. So I end up having to unlock and go text messages app anyway.

Maybe this is an app I should write.
That app could be especially well timed if it includes encryption.
I just got a new Android Nexus 4 phone, and while I love lots of things about it, I hate the fact that it does not just show texts on the screen as soon as they appear, like my old iPhone does.
The stupid Android phone makes me unlock it, then drag down on the message alert bar at the very top of the screen.
Ugh, how nasty. Is there some alternative texting app which will do the right thing? Namely, just show the text without my doing anything at all?
