---------------------------------
Gerald Chertavian is a liberal activist, a community organizer who created a non-profit to help underprivileged kids.

As Boston Business Journal writes:

Chertavian is such a believer in equalizing opportunities for underprivileged kids that he founded Year Up in 2000…In six years, Chertavian has gone from successful business entrepreneur to successful social entrepreneur, creating a business model and filling a niche that has Boston and regional companies knocking on his door for the skilled workers they need.

But Chertavian is not welcome as the new chairman of the board at Roxbury Community College because he’s committed the unpardonable sin of being…white.

Community members in Roxbury are opposing the appointment of Gerald Chertavian, CEO of nonprofit Year Up, as the new chairman of Roxbury Community College’s board because Chertavian is white.

In a letter sent to Gov. Deval Patrick over Memorial Day weekend, the group Friends of Roxbury Community College said it is “insulting for Governor Patrick to appoint a white person to head up the body that is the primary decision maker for the college. He is sending a message that although we are a predominantly Black institution, it will take a white person to give you the vision and leadership to take the college to the ‘promised land’ of education. That is the ‘plantation’ type mentality.”

Yes. You read that right. He should be banned from the job because he’s the wrong color.

Wow, liberalism sure has come a long way, hasn’t it?

Sadiki Kambon, who heads up the Friends of Roxbury Community College and runs a nonprofit in Roxbury, said in an interview that the group’s criticism is not of Chertavian, who would make a “welcome addition” to the board of trustees. But Kambon said the governor’s decision to appoint Chertavian chairman was the wrong move and that Roxbury residents need to see a person who “looks like us” in that leadership position.

On the bright side, Gov. Patrick made this appointment. That’s progress from the old Department of Justice Deval, who wanted to go to court to defend the right of government employers to fire white people because they were white.

Baby steps, my liberal friends. Baby steps

Liberalism in America turned into an excuse for just another form of discrimination. When Americans wanted to end discrimination, it was to make things better for everyone. Many liberals on the other hand, just simply wanted to reverse the discrimination.

It's not a secret, that if you want a government job these days in certain communities in CA you have to be black or "non-white hispanic" and know someone who already works there. Liberals complain when someone discriminates against them, but then they turn around and discriminate against others as if nothing is wrong with that.

Liberalism and leftism are not, have never been, and will never be the same thing. Why are conservatards too stupid to comprehend that fact no matter how many times their mistake is pointed out to them?

The left and the right in the United States are arbitrary sets of political ideologies. Really, guns and Jesus, what the hell do they have to do with each other? What constitutes the left and the right in the U.S. is completely fucking different from what constitutes the left and the right in other countries.

What constitutes the liberalism is a constant throughout the world. Maybe I need to tattoo this on the foreheads of every "social conservative". A liberal believes
1. In equality under law.
2. We should be a nation of rights, not privileges.
3. There is no such thing as a victimless crime, by definition. I.e., any action that has no victim should not be illegal.
4. Government should be culture agnostic.

Dan8267 says

A person should have the right to do whatever he wants as long as he is not infringing upon the rights of others. That is liberalism in a nutshell. And if you're not a liberal, you're not a real American or a decent person. The only alternative to liberalism is the arbitrary forcing of some people's wills upon others.

Dan8267 says

3. Liberalism is a social philosophy, not an economic one.

Dan8267 says

FDR is called a liberal only by people who do not know the difference between liberalism, progressivism, socialism, and leftism. I doubt that FDR believes in any of the things we liberals believe in like removing all laws against human cloning, public nudism, profanity over airwaves, and the utter elimination of all victimless crimes.

Dan8267 says

And again, liberalism has nothing to do with leftism, socialism, or the Democratic Party.

Dan8267 says

Liberalism is a social philosophy that states that people should be allowed to do whatever they want as long as they aren't violating the rights of others such as by hurting others. Quite frankly, if you're not a liberal, you're a scumbag. Liberalism isn't an economic philosophy.

Come on guys, this isn't rocket science. The vast majority of Democrats are not liberal in any way. The only reason why the Democratic Party is called liberal is because the Republicans embraced racism and bigotry during the 1950s/1960s in the Southern Strategy, in which the GOP bet their party that racists, outnumbering minorities, would ensure victories for the GOP indefinitely. Turns out their assumption didn't stay true for very long. Minorities far outnumber racists today. But just because the GOP still embraces the Southern Strategy does not mean that the Democratic Party is liberal; it just means the GOP are assholes.

Since when did Armenians become white?

In Boston, Armenians are the eastern Greeks. They both dislike the Turks & the Arabs together.

5   Shaman   2013 May 31, 4:12am

I'd discriminate against him simply because he's Armenian. Maybe not all Armenians are criminals, but if you shake their family trees, a few will fall out. I don't know why, but Armenians seem to have a culture of breAking the law and stealing especially, in creative ways like Internet fraud where their chances of being caught are slim.

AF said: Since when did Armenians become white?
It all started when a Massachusetts court overturned a U.S. Bureau of Naturalization decision in 1909: They are no darker than many west Europeans, and they resemble the Chinese in feature no more than they resemble the American aborigines.
It became official when, in the 1925 case United States v. Cartozian, the courts ruled that the Armenians are of an Alpine stock.
This was, of course, much to the chagrin of real estate professionals, who proffered contracts barring sales or leases to any person born in the Turkish empire, nor to any lineal descendant.

Boston isn't exactly a bastion of good racial relations. A few years back, I saw the Boston cops pull over three cars in a row, with the occupants all African Americans.

I said to my friend, "Isn't that strange?"

He said "Yeah. In Boston, it is called DWB."

The very idea of races is, literally, racism. But it can be used to one's advantage. Just ask Michelle and Barack. And Supreme Court Justice Sotomayor. The politocos thrive on racism as it chops up the voting bloc into separate illogical groups that can individually be pandered to. Divide and conquer.

We are a strange nation. A black man can yell racism if a white cop pulls him over, but if a black cop pulls over a white dude there is silence.

Biggest racists are the poor minorities who constantly frivolously claim racism where none is, just to see if they can get something out of it. They cry wolf too much, folks don't believe those fake cries and crocodile tears anymore.

Biggest racists...

yes, I believe members of minorities are more likely to be racist than most of us in the majority. They are more in touch with how their race affects them.

But if you look really carefully, you can find a more subtle kind of racism right here in this thread. Right in your comment even. But don't worry, it's not going to be something you can comprehend. Just color me another silly liberal.

MAybe it's differences in our right amygdala, left insula, right entorhinal cortex, and or our anterior cingulate, that they say are different between conservatives and normal people.

My theory is that those red versus blue brain differences are connected to residual neaderthal dna. Yeah, I think you know which one of us has more neanderthal in them. Please keep in mind what happened to the neanderthals.

IS that kind of like a few black individuals candidly and explicitly expressing their preference for a black person for the the CEO position at Roxbury Community College, and yet you will never even once hear a single one of the Obama haters say it has anything to do with his race ?

(I'm not saying all the Obama haters don't care for his presidency because he's black, but there must be at least a few)

Or is it kind of like when a strong preference for a black person to be in that CEO position is expressed by those individuals (how dare they actually say it out loud !), it is referred to above as...

I'm not denying racism here. But if you think it's a big deal, and it's some major "in your face liberals with your racism," I've got news for you, that's racist too.

That is true but these days people throw around non-matching labels all the time. For some reason liberal has become the equivalent of left, not much use fighting it. That happens on the other side as well. Tea-party is now a synonym for bigot racists although the original tea party movement was much closer to Occupy wall street than to far right republicans. Shit happens and this administration, as well as the previous is anything but liberal in the classical sense, i.e. it's true meaning.

Me calling someone out on their racism for being racist does not make me a racist. These people are putting burden onto that man only because of his race, they are evil, selfish, ignorant, and wrong!

I agree with everything you said except the part about not fighting it. Every time an idiot uses a term incorrectly and is denounced as an idiot, makes him and everyone watching less prone to misuse terms. The problem is we don't call people out on their ignorance enough. When it becomes socially unacceptable to be misinformed and uneducated, people will stop. People are sheep and they don't like looking the fool in front of others. We can use that instinct to promote knowledge or let the propaganda machines use it to promote idiocracy.

Agreed. There is nothing racist about calling people out for actual racism. However, race-baiting is racism and "reverse discrimination" is bigotry.

That is clearly a wrong, a bigoted position to take. What matters is how the person does the job, not what color skin he wears while doing it. If the position is actually useful, as oppose to symbolic bullshit, then you should want the best person for the job doing the job.
