March 26, 2013 edition

Fairmont, N.C. -- On Sunday afternoon, a 34-year-old man was wiping down a shotgun when it accidentally discharged and struck his 10-year-old son in the head, killing him.

Goochland County, Va. -- Last Thursday night, a man at a party fooling with a gun he thought was empty put the weapon to his head and pulled the trigger several times without incident. When another man, a 20-year-old Army reservist, put the gun to his head and pulled the trigger, a bullet discharged and killed him.

New Haven, Conn. -- A 20-year-old man apparently accidentally shot and killed himself at an apartment about 3:30 p.m. yesterday.

New Orleans, La. -- A 15-year-old was fatally shot about 6 p.m. yesterday. The victim was standing with several people outside an apartment complex when a group of teens showed up and someone began shooting.

West Haven, Conn. -- About 12:30 p.m. Friday, a man stabbed his girlfriend in the chest and neck and then used a gun to fatally shoot himself in the head. The woman’s injuries were considered non-life threatening.

Bidderford, Maine -- A man was found shot to death in a car at an apartment-house parking lot about 12:45 a.m. today.

Tacoma, Wash. -- A 39-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the foot with a handgun while target shooting. The gun fired when he tripped as he walked to check his target. The victim was expected to fully recover.

Sandy, Utah -- A 38-year-old woman was accidentally shot in the thigh at a home by her 15-year-old niece about 7 p.m. Monday. The niece, who was cleaning, found a gun in a drawer and the weapon discharged when she picked it up. The victim’s wounds were considered non life-threatening.

Miami Township, Ohio -- About 4 p.m. yesterday, a man walking in a park was putting away his gun when it accidentally fired, hitting him in the leg. His injury was reported as non life-threatening.

Noblesville, Ind. - A 66-year-old man accidentally shot himself about 6 a.m. Friday when he went outside his home to investigate a suspicious noise. The bullet grazed his head. His condition was reported as non life-threatening.

York, Penn. -- A 44-year-old man accidentally shot himself in the hand last Wednesday night. He had removed the magazine from his girlfriend’s .32-caliber Beretta Tam Cat handgun but when he pulled the trigger, the gun discharged a bullet. Note to gun owners: Removing the magazine from a gun doesn’t necessarily remove the bullet that’s in the chamber. (I’ve chronicled a number of people getting shot by this phantom bullet.)

Orlando, Fla. -- A 25-year-old woman was accidentally shot by her 23-year-old husband as he cleaned his 9 mm Glock handgun at their apartment about 8 p.m. yesterday. The bullet struck her in the right arm and entered her abdomen. She was expected to recover.

Chicago, Ill. -- Two men, ages 25 and 20, were shot by someone in a passing vehicle as they sat in a car about 4:45 p.m. yesterday. The older man was listed as stabilized with wounds to his chest and both legs. The younger man was in critical condition with wounds to his neck and leg.

Chicago, Ill. -- A 19-year-old man was shot in the side while on a street around 5 p.m. yesterday. No word on his condition.

Chicago, Ill. -- Someone firing from a vehicle shot a 14-year-old boy in the chest about 6:20 p.m. yesterday. His condition was listed as stabilized.

New Orleans, La. -- A 19-year-old man was shot in the shoulder while on a street yesterday. No word on his condition.

Pittsburgh, Penn. -- A man was shot in the chest and leg yesterday evening. The victim was conscious but no other word on his condition.

Highlands Ranch, Colo. -- A 28-year-old man was taken into custody when he accidentally fired a gun while in the men’s bathroom of a restaurant and the bullet flew into the dining room about 7 p.m. last Thursday. No one was hurt.

Know any good stories about Pit bulls killing baby seals? Hmmm yeah? Because they do that you know? They are quite the vicious brutes. All the crushing baby seal skulls and trashing about, ghastly beast.
