A common topic on patrick.net: Silicon valley is doomed, too expensive, nobody will live there, we should all live in the Midwest

This is an interesting article from the Economist about clustering, and why companies locate in SF/SJ even if it costs more than the midwest:

of course, nothing lasts forever, and Detroit was hot stuff 100 years ago. SV has shown some ability to reinvent itself: chips, systems, software. If this continues, it will continue to be strong. If not, well, not so good.

So this would seem to suggest suburbs would never happen?
