Is there anyway you can have the author of a discussion EXCLUDE certain users from posting within it? For example If post a new thread but do not want [PICKYOURTROLL] to hijack the conversation I simply add him/her to a list of "do not accept comments from [PICKYOURTROLL]" - whala! is blocked out for that particular discussion.

Just an idea.

Not sure why you would want to block comments... after all, these good intentioned posters often offer a unique and highly appreciated point of view. hahaha

Actually, this would be a great thing. "Ignore" from the OP. I like it!

Yeah, I like it as well. It would be nice if it could just block everyone on your ignore list.

OK, I will do it.

Premium members will be able to ban individual users from making comments on specific threads. I've actually been looking for ways to make Premium membership more valuable.

I'll also lower the cost of Premium membership to $5/month, and EastCoastBubbleBoy will get a free membership for suggesting the great idea. Elliemae and leo707 are already Premium.

I think I can get this done today.

It's partly done now. There is a "Ban" link by each comment on threads you own now (except for your own comments, since you can't ban yourself).

It doesn't block everyone on your ignore list, but it should block people from commenting any more on your thread once you ban them.

Probably still some bugs to work out. Hmmm, if you're ignoring someone, you won't see their comments on your thread to begin with, so you'd have to unignore them, then ban them...

Maybe it is best to just block everyone on your ignore list from commenting.

The answer is to do both:

1. If you click "Ban" on a comment in one of your own threads, the user is banned from commenting on that thread.

2. If you're ignoring a user, the user is banned from commenting on any of your threads.

Those functions should be working. Now I have to show the thread owner that a user is banned from a thread, and make an un-ban function.

Thanks Patrick!

Elliemae and leo707 are already Premium.

You show as the moderator on my threads.

Oops, I did actually have you as a Premium member for a year, but that expired at the end of the year (Sep 1st). You are now Premium again.

Wow - funny thing is that I didn't even notice it until about a month ago...

or, i can pay you to stand in my closet and shout "lalalalaaa, meemeememeeeee!" with my fingers firmly lodged in my ears while making shadow-puppets with my toes.

this place is beginning to get unreal. you do realize that this is all to combat trolls, don't you? as soon as you've altered your behavior, especially this substantially, they've pretty much won.

Please post video.

Ah shit, the interactions between ban and ignore are getting ugly.

How about just people on your ignore list are banned from posting in your threads?

13   elliemae   2012 Oct 12, 2:26am

I can see why people want to ban someone... but at the same time, if it's too complicated people like me will blow it off because it's too much work...

14   Patrick   2012 Oct 12, 5:40am

OK, I'll stick to hyper-simple:

Anyone ignored by a Premium user is also banned from posting comments on that Premium user's threads.

Good, or is there a better solution?

I like the $5 a month price. Just like a house/condo, knock off 30% or 40% and it becomes...thinkable.

16   Patrick   2012 Oct 12, 6:41am

Yes, most people seem to be able to handle $5 per month OK for Premium membership type things.

And don't forget, first month free!

17   David9   2012 Oct 12, 6:53am

Done. Signed up.

Logged out and logged back in (might not happen this quick for status to update)

Snazzy, that was a quick update. Good Job.

19   Patrick   2012 Oct 12, 7:19am

Thanks for being Premium!

Awhile back, I searched the internet for 'Blogging Etiquette', didn't find much except common sense articles.

Not rules, but guidelines I thought I might be missing, but no.

1st amendment rules.
