Hmmmmm... I would need more information on prop 37 to make a sound judgement.
Please vote yes on prop 30. Education is our future...it should always be free to everyone all the way to PhD.
Proposition 30 would increase income taxes on Californians earning more than $250,000 for a seven-year period, and increase sales taxes for all Californians by ¼ cent for four years. If passed, estimates are Proposition 30 would raise $6 billion annually for K-12 schools and community colleges.
Supporters of Proposition 30 say it is necessary to prevent deep school cuts, guarantee local public safety funding and help balance the state budget. Without Prop 30, supporters say, schools and colleges face $6 billion in cuts. Supporters also say the money cannot be used for anything other than schools without voter approval.
Supporters of Proposition 30 include Governor Jerry Brown, California Teachers Association, The Association of School Administrators, the California State Sheriff’s Association, and the League of Women Voters.
Opponents of Proposition 30 say it’s a $50 billion tax on all Californians, not just the wealthy, at a time when California families and small businesses are already hurting. Opponents also say Prop 30 offers no guarantees that money raised from the tax increase will ever find its way into classrooms. Instead, opponents say, the measure would give politicians more of California’s tax dollars to spend any way they please.
Opponents of Proposition 30 include The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association, National Federal of Independent Business, the Small Business Action Committee, and Californians for Reforms and Jobs, Not Taxes.
prop 37 requires mandatory identification of gmo foods at the market.
of course yes on 30.
and while we are at it, it's time to get the ball rolling to repeal prop 13.

OMG - repeal prop 13? Why?
Please no.

Great, even more Ph.Ds for the unemployment lines...
Yea more warnings to add to the list of warnings we are already bombarded with. This law was written by lawyers for lawyers so they can sue the pants of food suppliers and cause California food prices to rise. I mean you can already know what has not been modified by looking for "organic." If you want an example of how this law will fail, look at Prop 65. Those warnings are everywhere and on everything so that people don't get sued for some trace amount of anything that may be found now or in the future. They have become so ubiquitous that they are useless, ignored, and just cost business money.
you can buy all the gmo food that you want. but why do i have to pay extra for organic food, in order to buy the non gmo food that i want?
Raw says, "OMG - repeal prop 13? Why?
Please no."
Please yes! California is unfairly and disproportionately taxing young families and letting older wealthier folks off the hook for RE taxes. Also businesses, hereditary dynasty land and property such as the Irvine corporation pay very little land tax for the privilege of raping the rest of us on rent. They pay pennies in tax and charge hundreds in land leases per month. And that is just for Improved property with condos and such on it. There is no reason why the wealthiest Californians can't be taxed at the same rate as the poorest, rather than the current system which rewards wealth and punishes struggling families.
Fuck prop 13!
you can buy all the gmo food that you want. but why do i have to pay extra for organic food, in order to buy the non gmo food that i want?
That is completely reasonable and I agree with that. But I believe this law is the wrong way to go about it. What you may find out is that everything that is not organic or currently advertised as not modified may contain gmo, to avoid being sued. If that is the case then the law is completely useless and unnecessary.
Some other questions that I don't know the answer too because I have not read the text of the law:
Although I am not for this law, in reality I would not be too upset if it passes.
prop 13 is discriminatory - one of the main reason we have less money for schools are that many wealthy older Californians dont pay their fair share of the taxes. imagine living in a 2 million dollar ocean front property and paying tax as if you were living in a 200 thousand dollar condo in Sacramento. I personally know many who are in this situation - though most hide this fact to avoid embarassment of being a burden on their neigbors and community. How could that tax support local education system/police/fire/etc given high standard of living in expensive areas? Prop 13 is the worse curse on young Californians - it MUST be repealed!

how about just charging much more for gmo foods instead? we can put all that extra money in a huge fund to compensate the victims and their next 7 generations of offspring?

those wealthy older california property owners can also leave their property in their wills to whomever, and the property will not be reassessed at new value for new owner. something wrong with this picture? i personally know of such a case where a coworker of mine was left a 4 bedroom house in the bernal heights neighborhood of sf by her grandmother. she pays $700.00 per year property tax on a house that is valued at over 1.2mil. nice girl, but she doesn't deserve such a windfall at everyone els's expense. she is a welfare queen!
p 13 is unfair for sure.
but anything that reduces income to government parasites I support.
I pay 50% tax rates already in CA!!! federal+state+10% sales tax OMG i get 'nothing' from the state of CA.
The information you give in the article doesn't tell you much. What was the control treatment? Is there a significant difference between groups feed just roundup to those feed just MG maize compared to the control? The scientific article cost $31, but the fact that your article does not specifically say that gm maize by itself increased tumors makes me wonder if they a spinning this scientific publication.
I don't understand why everyone gets so worked up about prop 13.
When you are young and buy a house you pay more property tax, and when you are old and retired you pay less. Isn't social security and medicare based on the same concept? So is social security unfair?
As long as the same rule applies to everyone, and we all get old one day, then it must be fair.
I bought my home fresh out of college, and paid my dues to the devil. When I retire, I don't expect to keep paying the devil. My kids have started reaching college age, and I have enough expenses on my hands.
Why does everyone want to screw me?

Wish I was on a 50% tax bracket.
Two things:
1) Inflation had a high bump in the 70's and again in the late 80's and early 90's. Since then it's been much more modest. What this
Means is that housing tax is super slow in catching up on houses tha start 300% in the hole vs. inflation. Nothing bought today will ever come close to those levels of appreciation/inflation vs. tax rate.
2) prop 13 is therefore just a giveaway to those who got there first and/or got lucky. And their deacendants. Meanwhile since the state's cost of providing liberal programs to all continues, more money is needed but less and less money comes in vs. inflation. This isn't a "paid my dues" thing anymore than Romney's tax rate is fair to those who are taxed twice that rate on 90k. It's just a gimmick and its time is due to be up. Things will never get back to normal either because Raw will bequeath his house to his kids and they will keep the artificially low tax rate.
3) We pay one of the highest income and sales taxes in the nation because of this. The state WILL grab the money it needs to operate. The 10% sales tax with an option on every ballot to raise the rate still further is a direct effect of Prop 13.
Finally, what Prop 13 makes possible is legal but radically unfair, much like the federal tax rate on capital gains. Romney has been under fire for his LEGAL tax paying because people think it's unfair. How is his taking advantage of a legal loophole any different from paying 1980 rates on an expensive house that your neighbors pay four times that for?
Raw = Romney
Raw is an independent supporting Obama.
California has such high income taxes because it's a welfare state. 15% of the country's population, but 33% of the country's welfare recipients. Sick sick sick.
Prop 13 not providing enough taxes is just an excuse. Real estate costs a lot more in California, so even a lower average property tax rate should more than make up the gap.
Look, I am voting with my pocket book when it comes to property tax. Don't we all? aren't we all genetically engineered to be selfish?
For similar reasons I support prop 30, because I don't want to dole out more for my kids college tuition.
if property tax was higher wouldn't prices be lower? I'd rather give my money to my local community rather than to the banks and realturds in the form of bigger loans
and commissions.

I hope prop 37 makes it and wished libertarians would support it as well instead of just supporting equal rights for raw dairy and organic farmers, but still better than the current FDA shills who do everything to prevent raw dairy farmers from doing business.
I'm mostly concerned with the added expense that will be put on the state to hire inspectors and regulation enforcers and their accompanying armies of paper pushers. Not to mention that nearly all food products will need to carry that GMO label. Monsanto has got a pretty clear monopoly on seed, and it's all GMO. So anything that's not certified organic is pretty certain to be GMO.
I don't believe that GMO food is bad for us. If it weren't for specifically developed strains of wheat, corn, barley, and soy, 50% of the world's population would die of hunger within two years.
When the MidWest crops failed in 2008, and corn and wheat prices raised significantly, people in Jamaica were eating cakes made mostly of dirt just to keep hunger pangs at bay. And that's just one example of what can happen when a small interruption of service occurs in the breadbasket of the world.
Is that really the preferrable alternative? Are we that selfish that we consider an aesthetic or trendy benefit of "non-GMO" labels on our food is worth massive population die-off in the third world? Or did you all just never think this thing all the way through?
This is frightening to say the least.
Best thing you can do for yourself is eat organic. Regulatory will not catch up, at least not fast enough. If all of us relied on government, we'd all be dead by now.
I think this article reminds us all to look out for ourselves.
