So I cruised around the area and checked out the new construction townhome condos from Shea Homes:

They want over 680k for these 1500 townhomes in Mountain View/Sunnyvale area back up to Caltrain.

So I went 5 miles to the cheaper ones at Boulevard in Santa Clara:

Boulevard sells for 580k and is in a very rundown ghetto part of Santa Clara.

No backyard basically a 3 story condo with 2 car garage. What a ripoff!

I like to walk through those sometimes just to get remodeling ideas. The trick you with the luxurious looking model with huge amounts of upgrades but the actual unit theyre selling for 580k is probably empty with bare white walls.

With The amount of upgrading you need to do to get it looking like the model youd be better off just buying an older home and remodel that instead.

True- guess a 400k fixer is all that I can find these days in Mountain View, Sunnyvale, Santa Clara and Los Gatos.
