US no longer investing in anyone but these fucking retard hipster rich kid faggots.
This is old news. There are fewer and fewer junior principal investigators these days. The money is being corralled by the old guard who have tenure.
More and more PhD recipients will be postdocs and adjunct profs, for the rest of their lives. And thus, it's only natural that they leave for some unix admin or programming job, once it's clear that they'll be doing postdocs for life.

We are still numero uno.

The thing is that principal investigators have their PhD students and postdocs run all kinds of scenarios for them, to later take credit for that work.

I hear that all the time, but if the principals are the ones directing the research and making key decisions, they should get the credit.
U.S. no longer investing in young scientists
Aaand we're replacing it with crap like this:

Fat chicks have less sex and riskier sex overall but it's not because they're fat. We'll prove it.

It's not as simple as that. This isn't corporate America, where everyone walks around like a zombie.
In academia, a lot of students believe that applying their creativity, is the way to go. And thus, they come up with experiments/scenarios, which others haven't thought about earlier.
Then, the greedy advisors show up and then, pretend that it was their original idea and that the student only executed the protocols. This is why the academy is such a joke today.
I'd seen so many angry PhDs and postdocs in the last decade, that I'm surprised that we don't have more mass shootings at universities these days.

OK, I'm sure you have a valid point. So how should Noble prizes be awarded?

Obviously, someone needs to be dubbed the "owner".
Unfortunately, given the current glut of PhDs/postdocs in the system, this is no longer a viable situation.
Until the system is cleaned up, where the PI is in fact, the true originator of the ideas and then, the PhDs/postdocs are the worker bees to exact those ideas, we have an unsolvable dilemma.

As long as mankind benefits, it won't matter.

Until that PI is shot dead, by the guy who he'd ripped off.
