No buyers could qualify for the bankruptcy sale of Atlantic City’s newest luxury casino, the Revel. It will shutter its doors in September joining other once famous names like Trump Plaza and The Showboat.

New Jersey college buys Atlantic City casino for dorm, branch campus

One of the three towers will remain a hotel holding some 479 rooms opening sometime in the spring of 2015. I assume Bourbon Tower

The college said dorm rooms could be used as hotel rooms during summer months, when demand is high and most students are away from campus.

Appropriate considering what a gamble getting a college degree is in today's economy.

Interesting!

I will most likely stay at Bally's or the Trop just the same. Closing casinos hasn't seemed to affected off season rates (when I go) anyway. Never stayed at any of the closed ones except ShowBoat. This article does remind me to stop by the Taj before it closes.

Sure gambling revenues are down in AC, but people are still going and staying in hotel rooms and eating.

But it's the gambling revenues that keeps the hotels going. Giving away FREE rooms and comps for food doesn't make them money.

They say Atlantic City cannot compete with all the Indian Casinos popping up. There are Indian Casinos popping up in so. Cal. and other areas too where Las Vegas gets its gamblers. So why is Las Vegas thriving, but Atlantic City shutting down?
My guess, Atlantic City is for gamblers only. While Las Vegas is attracting non gamblers too. Visitors are willing to bring their families to see shows, expensive buffets, and tourist sites, besides gambling. Atlantic City does not have anything but gambling because its a high crime city run by dumb politicians.

AC is a shithole. Very, very little of the casino revenue went into the city. I worked on the steel pier renovation in 75/76 before resorts opened. The entire city was a ghetto. We pretty much had to bring everything, including our vehicles, inside the pier and keep them in sight while we worked. Now there are the casino's and the rest of the city is still a ghetto. No one spends a dime outside of the casino's.

Ppl, the tribal Mohegan Sun and Foxwoods in CT are full fledged entertainment venues with gaming, food, drinking, sporting events, shows, clubs, etc. And they're both safe 'burbs so after getting drunk, one doesn't have to worry about getting mugged off some boardwalk. How can AC, without being a safe nice beach town w/ legalized prostitution, compete against that? Everyone knows that AC is a slum and for well over a generation, no one did anything about it.

They did, but both of them got mugged so they stopped.

As long as you are going to ignore the beach, boardwalk, bars, cats, and nightlife, I guess so!

I'm not disputing that the immediate surrounding area is filled with filthy black people, that are basically feral, I just don't understand why that matters since they don't go to the tourist areas.

AC has been a failure. You would think its beach front location, proximity to NY City and the millions of foreign tourists that can be tapped would have been a recipe for success. They could have added lots of shopping outlets, family entertainment, cruise ship destination and what not. But they screwed up because of the very very dumb politicians who failed to control the crime there. No one in their right minds would want to visit high crime neighborhoods.

Where did all the gambling taxes go? If AC is the same dump it always was, what did the local politicians do with all the money? I'm willing to bet they are as corrupt as Illinois politicians.

It is not a casino city. More like a city-state with casinos. Being low tax and all, it makes money from people and companies residing there. More like a seaside Liechtenstein with good weather.

Singapore is another successful city with big casinos. But it is not a casino city. Take away the casinos it will do just fine.

And don't forget, seeing esc*rts in Singapore is legal and thus, it's a great place for an ex-pat :-)!

I'd say the Malay/Indonesian stuff is the best, then followed by mainstream Chinese, and finally South Indian.

As for western stuff, it's kinda ordinary. But why would anyone go there to have a burger or a NY Sirloin anyways?

On the other note, a program manager took my team out to a Beijing/Peking duck place and it blew away everything that I'd had in New England and New York. So it's a spectrum of quality.

I think they are known for a poached chicken dish.

Chicken fried steak has no chicken! But I do crave some occasionally.

Some people get a rush from dangerous activities, like jumping out of an airplane. I rather eat unhealthy food.

I think true Mongolian BBQ would be some dried meat on some skewers, very gritty and basic, not a fancy Benihana stir fry.

I remember seeing those skewers in mainland China outside of Beijing some years back.

30   Peter P   2014 Dec 15, 4:25am

Benihana is Teppanyaki though. It is supposedly Japanese but it was heavily influenced by western cooking.

Benihanna in the sense that it's a big flat grill with a lot of fixings. That's Taiwanese "Mongolian" BBQ.

Looks like the Golden Nugget is the biggest winner here.

http://www.foxbusiness.com/markets/2014/12/12/atlantic-city-casino-win-down-103-percent-last-month-but-revenue-up-for-current/

By far the biggest gainer was the Golden Nugget, whose overall November revenue was up more than 78 percent compared to a year ago, to $17.8 million. The Tropicana was up 24.5 percent to $23.1 million.

The Borgata and Golden Nugget each have added about 250 more workers than they had a year ago, and the Tropicana has 120 more.

Mike stopped to entreaty the ladies that his love was true. I got out and slapped my dick off of the fender and shouted, "FUCKING WHOREFUCKS! Who WANTS IT? You got $100, you can blow ME!" The biggest one came over and stuffed a 100 dollar bill in my pants waist and started pulling on my dick. I barphed. She didn't miss a stroke. The cops showed up just as she knelt and I started fucking her face. I almost got soft when I saw the lights surrounding us. So I started bucking harder. She grunted in complaint when I got into her throat but was clearly into it, the insanity of sucking off a guy covered in barph in the pouring rain.

Looked and smelled like the same old Atlantic city to me

Atlantic city is suffering for one reason, and one reason only

Because Pennsylvania decided to cater to the millions of degenerates that enjoy losing their money to the slots. Much more convenient to feed the addiction closer to home, the ride home full of disgust is much shorter

I started howling and bucking straight into the whore's throat. The cops
pulled their guns and ordered me and the whore to stand down. "SHOOT! SHOOT!
SHOOT!, ASSHOLES!!!!," I howled. Mike pulled out his duty card and raised it
over the roof as I blew my wad into the whore's throat and I pounded the roof
and drove it into the car carbin. The warm rain and blood poured down my ass and
legs. The whore's finger nails tore my flesh in the heat of the moment.

I got back in Mike's shitbox Mustang as shots rang out and the Atlantic City
cops shot the whore and threw her lifeless body over the cop car trunk ass up
and raped her corpse. Local cops reported in the AP Press the next day that a
terrorist laundering money for Al Qaeda was killed in a shoot out with them.

It's true talent like this that keeps me subscribing to showtime/tmc!

A few boring casinos. The ship has a better casino with free food.
An Ocean. More ocean when the ship sails.
Crime. No thanks, my ass stays on the ship.

In a real casino I can get free cocktails just by playing the penny slot.

The cruise ships would dock in the Marina District. home of Borgata, Harrah's, and Golden Nuggets. It's supposed to be a nice part of town with the best casinos.
