Ok, so they put a bunch of stuff about this new policy in their EUA, that long ass thing that nobody reads. It has you agree that such a fine is reasonable, so when the company charges your account you could legally owe the money.

Aaand then they walked it back after mass outrage and name calling.

But the fact remains that they “test piloted” this fine and would have kept it if they could have.

Paypal probably got the missive from the Swiss Octagon "creative woke and population ritualized humiliation division" and like good soldiers implemented it aforethought. Then, they did a double take and said: "Wa, Mon, this is gonna bank fuck us big time. We no gwan do!"

“Closed” is one of the states of your account in their database. I have a feeling that lot of these big tech knows the legal ways to keep old records forever.

Usually deleted is just a flag in the database. Assume once you enter your data, it's there forever. Only way to really remove it is to change it to data that's not yours.

What other option would recommend over PayPal in this case?

Venmo, bitcoin, checks, cash, Zell, Gab. All these methods have various drawbacks, and I wouldn't expect Zell or Venmo to be an less woke.

I haven't been able to use paypal for about a year now. They can't tell who I am, so won't take my transaction. This seems to be a good canary. Go private, and see how many companies drop you. Those are the woke ones, and they will all reveal themselves in time...

No.

It's a database, information is never lost.

Let me explain to you the situation. A 128 GB SD card is around..

https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-128GB-MicroSDXC-Memory-Adapter/dp/B08GYKNCCP/ref=sr_1_8?crid=2XQ1J2BXTD0YN&keywords=128+sd+card&qid=1665385346&qu=eyJxc2MiOiI0LjI3IiwicXNhIjoiNC4wMiIsInFzcCI6IjMuODEifQ%3D%3D&sprefix=128+sd+car%2Caps%2C141&sr=8-8

$18.

That can, trivially, contain more than you will type, read, or speak (in text) in a lifetime. We're moving into crystal storage, that can contain more storage than every film, every word you've spoken or heard (in audio) - and everything you read or written trivially and that storage isn't just for your lifetime, it's for 100's of thousands of years. Probably your entire brain structure to the point of recreation can be stored on it.

The final "hard disk" will be a disk that has so much storage, that there will be no point in deleting data from it. You can't delete the data on it actually, but you can mark it as unusable.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/5D_optical_data_storage

This is why the future of the Internet is decentralized, in control of the individuals rather than corporations. Remember, corporations have the power first, but it trickles down. On a 128GB SD Card, you can store more films than you'd want to watch in a month, if you were unemployed, and trapped into a dark room. More music or audio than you can listen to in a year without it looping, more than you can read in an 10 lifetimes.

People REALLY have no idea what kind of power they have. I could smuggle the entire plans of the Manhattan Project (all of it), up my asshole on a device that was 1/2 the cost, and still have room to have every book I've read, and you've read, and everybody here has read, on it. Need better security? Stick it in a condom and swallow it.

For text, it's not even worthwhile to delete it. It's trivial amounts of space.

I need an api that will work in many many countries.

I'd like to see some verification of this. I just withdrew my money (~$200) from it and encountered no issues.

My paypal is now officially canceled. Fuck those woke sillycon valley manbun wearing bitches.

Even if some people eventually reopen their account, its still better to cancel now because there will surely be a tally of lost accounts, and other businesses will be paying attention to the number. The bigger the number, the more careful other companies will be when experimenting with wokeness, or allowing woke employees to be in leadership positions with business autonomy.

Closed mine as well.

Will Paypal be fining themselves for releasing misinformation?
36   Ceffer   2022 Oct 10, 12:07pm

Ebay has become a shopping mall more than a true auctions site, anyway. Laws of economic attrition have leveled it out to bracketed standards.

paypal tries to say this was all a mistake

Update, a Paypal spokesperson told Teslarati in an email:

“An AUP notice recently went out in error that included incorrect information. PayPal is not fining people for misinformation and this language was never intended to be inserted in our policy. Our teams are working to correct our policy pages. We’re sorry for the confusion this has caused.”

lol @ calling it a "mistake" and characterizing it as "confusion". For the sake of argument, if we assume it truly was a mistake, then it is still the price you pay for employing wokers who see everything as an opportunity to "fight for justice" and leverage their company towards their personal commie goals. Not that I believe it was a mistake.

Even Elon, one of the founders of paypal, agrees this attempted wokeness worship is insanity

Paypal was on my shitlist, now double shit list. that includes Venmo, cancelled that. paypal owned.

Paypal stock is at $84 and at 2018 levels. It has been sliding down since $308 in July 2021.

I guess they figured they could reverse some of that and compensate for their poor customer service, etc. by going militant Woke with this $2500 penalty proposal.

Maybe they thought this would appeal to all their Woke current and former customers enough to at least improve earnings.

Paypals earnings and revenues have steadily increased annually over the last 5 years. It is making money, and for a financial technology (or fintech) company, its P/E (trail twelve months or ttm) is only 48.

Patrick, notice that was in 2010. That was because the Left in Silicon Valley wanted to protect the Obama Admin from Wiki Leaks.

The same crowd loved Wiki Leaks when G W Bush was President and neo cons were running things.

When the neo marxists (or authoritarian left) and Wokes are in charge, its a different matter then.
