The results are not looking good for most of the Dems. Darn! I knew they should have sent some more buses. Where are the New Black Panthers when you need them?

7   Done!   2011 Aug 9, 12:10pm

Yes you can't!

8   Done!   2011 Aug 9, 12:14pm

How could the Dems lose Wisconsin? Did they call everyone STUPID enough, I don't get it, that's a winning formula according to Bill Mahr.

9   Vicente   2011 Aug 9, 12:26pm

What are you guys up to in here? Pretending that what ToT and Shrek think is important, really is? OK, back to your mutual admiration club.

10   Done!   2011 Aug 9, 12:30pm

12   HousingWatcher   2011 Aug 9, 12:47pm

The race is now officially split: 3 dems in the lead, and 3 Repubs in the lead. One Republican who is behind is notorious Scott Walker henchman Alberta Darling, who is the Dems' #1 target (after Scott Walker of course).

13   marcus   2011 Aug 9, 12:48pm

As long as they successfully recall at least 3, it's a major victory. Then there's just the question of next weeks attempted recalls of democrats.

14   HousingWatcher   2011 Aug 9, 12:54pm

There was already a recall election for one Dem and he won. So the Republicans are going to have a very tough fight.

http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/2011/08/09/reading-the-wisconsin-recall-vote/

"On the other hand, Mr. Walker carried the six districts on Tuesday’s recall ballot by an average of 13 percentage points in 2010 — better than his statewide margin of 6 percentage points. If Democrats were to split the vote across these districts about evenly, that would be a reasonably troubling sign for Mr. Walker, however many of the seats Democrats actually win."

16   marcus   2011 Aug 9, 12:59pm

In your face Walker !

Oh, and by the way, Walker ?

THANK YOU !!!

17   HousingWatcher   2011 Aug 9, 1:03pm

Scott Walker must be really scared right now since next year he gets his own recall election too. The only question is whether Walker's recall election will be in January or in Nov. during the prediential election.

18   Done!   2011 Aug 9, 1:05pm

Once again the 50/50 rule prevails.
I think the Left and Right at any time have 50 percent of the people believing the cart loads of bullshit, they feed them. Then every election those same 50% of the people are disgusted and fed up and switch sides.

Oh well at least they can't hurt each other. Which is the evolutionary benefit that developed to protect parties from getting to big and hurting them selves. It seems when there's a perfect balance they impede each other and inhibit stupidity from prevailing.

Wisconsin will be a safer place now.

19   HousingWatcher   2011 Aug 9, 1:10pm

And if Dems win, Fox News will be whining that Dems stole the election all day tomorrow. Gotta watch out for all those imaginary buses with voters from Chicago on them.

20   HousingWatcher   2011 Aug 9, 1:13pm

JUST IN: AP declares Democrat Jennifer Shilling the winner. So far 3 Repubs won and 1 Dem won.

Were still waiting for the county with the crazy clerk who does not know how to count votes to report.

21   HousingWatcher   2011 Aug 9, 1:18pm

I noticed that Red State became very quiet after the Dems started to pull ahead. I take it the Repubs are not that thrilled tonight.

22   marcus   2011 Aug 9, 1:21pm

C'mon district 18 !

23   marcus   2011 Aug 9, 1:22pm

District 8 is becoming more of a nail biter too

24   Done!   2011 Aug 9, 1:23pm

District 8 is only teetering on the win.

25   marcus   2011 Aug 9, 1:46pm

It's only one branch. They aren't going to be able to undo much anyway.

26   marcus   2011 Aug 9, 1:47pm

It's sends a nice little message though.

27   marcus   2011 Aug 9, 1:56pm

I'm afraid that right about now some behind the scenes agents for the Koch brothers are trying to find someone in district 8 to bribe. Maybe come up with some loose chad or something.

You should consider that union employees are given time to go vote, while non union workers do have to take time off and go to work the next day.

With all the races being close by 1 or 2% that's a huge competitive advantage.

30   marcus   2011 Aug 9, 2:06pm

Yeah, I guess the rally might not have been so much about this vote. I do think that the smart money will see it as a positive though, for our government. And our dysfunctional government is a big part of why the market has been down so much in the past week.

31   marcus   2011 Aug 9, 2:22pm

Oops Darling is the GOP candidate. Looks bad. Very bad.

32   Vicente   2011 Aug 9, 3:25pm

Yawn wish I could work up a damn about this but for some reason Wisconsin puts me to., zzzzzzzzzzzz

Meh. The usual. Actual progress putting progressives to sleep.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

34   FortWayne   2011 Aug 10, 12:48am

GOP kept 4 seats, people are really ticked off at government union corruption.

35   wtfcapinv   2011 Aug 10, 1:35am

I thought the Democrats had the momentum to take control of the Senate last night. However, they did not. The GOP won 4 of 6 races with two more Democrats up for recalls in a few weeks.

This is yet another major loss for the Democrats. Perhaps the arranged marriage of the public sector cartel and Democrats/Rockefeller Repbulicans is actually bleeding a slow death.

36   Vicente   2011 Aug 10, 1:40am

Meh recalls inherently an uphill battle what's the odds?

This is not a loss. They replaced two sitting Republican senators, with democrats, and they did well enough in these extremely republican dominated districts to go forward with a recall of the governor.

It's a clear victory as far as I'm concerned, but not as much as I was hoping for.

Recalls were extremely rare pre Al "MY aching ass" Gore made the concept a viable political strategy for the Losers.

How come the GOP never screams for a Recall?

We're watching you, Libs actions are cheesily transparent.
And are a detriment to our democratic process, and is turning the whole damn thing into a Kangaroo court.

Quit trying to smile and pretend everything is fine after getting punched in the gut. It's alright to be pissed about losing.

Contrary to popular belief, there are winners and losers.... In this instance, the losers are the Unions and winner is Walker. Painful I know - but it's the truth.

42   middleman   2011 Aug 10, 3:29am

shrekgrinch says

And the Wisconsin taxpayer.

You mean some Wisconsin taxpayers. I have a crazy hunch some of the taxpayers voted the other way....so you really can't call them winners now, can you?

43   middleman   2011 Aug 10, 3:57am

shrekgrinch says

Yes, I can. Because as taxpayers they win because the unions lost.

Ah, so you're saying even the taxpayers that hate Walker (and his anti-union politics) and voted to oust republicans are winners....they just don't know it.

44   HousingWatcher   2011 Aug 10, 11:52am

Walker's union busting bill saves money? Really shrek? Because that is not what Scott Walker said:

KUCINICH: Let me ask you about some of the specific provisions in your proposals to strip collective bargaining rights. First, your proposal would require unions to hold annual votes to continue representing their own members. Can you please explain to me and members of this committee how much money this provision saves for your state budget?

WALKER: That and a number of other provisions we put in because if you’re going to ask, if you’re going to put in place a change like that, we wanted to make sure we protected the workers of our state, so they got value out of that. [...]

KUCINICH: Would you answer the question? How much money does it save, Governor?

WALKER: It doesn’t save any. [...]
