Liberalism vs Progressivism

I claim myself to be progressive-conservative.

Someone told me that being progressive was no different than being liberal. For me, being liberal means anything goes (Gay Marriage, Abortion, Drug Abuse, etc.) where as being progressive means that a person seeks improvements (Social Reform, Economic Growth, Technology Innovation, Government Reforms, etc.) within our society.....have the liberal Gay and Abortion rights groups taken over the Progressive movement?

The initial progressive movement arose as a response to the vast changes brought by the Industrial Revolution. Contemporary progressives continue to embrace concepts such as environmentalism and social justice[1]. Social progressivism, which states that governmental practices ought to be adjusted as society evolves, forms the ideological basis for many American progressives.

"progressive conservative" is an oxymoron.

Your definition of "progressive" is bizarre. Are you saying that non-progressives ( whatever you're going to call those) are anti economic growth, anti technology innovation, and anti government reform (seriously, WTF does that even mean?)

Honestly, you could use your definition of "progressive" to describe every political organization out there, except maybe anarchists.

Anybody that holds a position before they've heard the facts is damn fool.
And that is the problem with modern politics the issues take back seat to party affiliation.

The point I am making here is that homesexulality and ending the life of babies has pushed all other issues aside. On some issues I am conservative, and on others I am progressive but I never choose to be liberal on any of the issues. It is the same for liberals to call themselves progressive-liberal. Meaning they want to expand Gay and Abortion Rights, open marijuana clinics and provide free healthcare for everyone.

How So?....I hold a progressive stance on social reform and conservative stance on economics. Together, that means that I wont pay for social services (Healthcare, Social Security, FHA or Parks & Rec) unless we can find a way to make these programs pay for themselves. Cut, Cut, Cut is my motto when it comes to any non-profit entitty whether is be government or Fannie Mae.

If it dont turn a profit, it dont make sense!

I think the real issue is half of the country wants to broadcast their Sodomy whilst the other country think it is just TMI.

We'll never be able to legislate taste so I chose to smoke my dildo shaped bong in private when I'm aborting unwanted fetuses. Some things are just more gratifying in private.

Liberalism comes in many forms. The essence of liberalism is toleration of different beliefs and of different ideas as to what constitutes a good life....so according to that statement we should embrace the stupidity within Hip Hop and Rock n Roll who preach drug abuse and womanizing.
