Polyester everywhere. My last couple of years shopping experience is depressing. Whenever I go, Costco, TJ Maxx, or upscale Macy’s or Nordstrom Rack, polyester clothes and shoes dominate landscape. When last time we went to Lululemon and see nice looking sport clothes and nothing but polyester. Entire store smells like a factory producing polyester. I am suspicious whether Louis Vuitton purses are genuine leather. Fact that polyester is cheap. It is produced from fin air literally.
In mean time, in Australia wool is buried in the ground because nobody wants to buy it. Not to mention how hard time is to dispose tons of cow skin. Linen, ancient times. African countries take used clothes and whatever they cannot resell ending on local beach. So, we have all stuff from plastic; your car seats, your sofa, socks (feet smells bad), shoes, underwear (for those who like to be sweaty), office chairs, unbreathable jackets. Polyester can be found in ocean’s fish and no wonder, even in humans’ brain. Then we need medication to fight obesity, because our body don’t know how to digest plastic in food, turning it into fat. Don’t be surprise that medications are produced as a result of chemical processing.
Weird that green activists and environmentalists somehow are quiet to the growing problem. Perhaps nobody pays them to touch this subject.

Wool and leather are very expensive, so destroying them must be part of some government scheme which is doing more harm than good.

Other than that, polyester is awesome. I love the versatility of the material.

I prefer cotton when exercising in the heat. Very breathable. Polyester is oppressive - not very breathable. But I do have a few REI shirts that are 92% polyester, 8% Spandex that are pretty light and breathable. It is probably the addition of the Spandex that makes it more breathable. Stretchy, too.

Just learned a new thing today.

1. What is viscose and where did it come from?

Perhaps you have heard of viscose, or maybe you know it better as Rayon. This is the term for viscose in the United States. But what actually is it?

What is viscose?
Viscose is a type of rayon. Originally known as artificial silk, in the late 19th century, the term “rayon” came into effect in 1924. The name “viscose” derived from the way this fibre is manufactured; a viscous organic liquid used to make both rayon and cellophane. What this means in English? Viscose is the generalised term for a regenerated manufactured fibre, made from cellulose, obtained by the viscose process.

As a manufactured regenerated cellulose fibre, it is neither truly natural (like cotton, wool or silk) nor truly synthetic (like nylon or polyester) – it falls somewhere in between.

Viscose is a low-cost fabric, which is popular thanks to its myriad of qualities. It can be found in cotton end uses, as well as luxurious velvet’s and taffeta’s. Viscose can also be found in feminine hygiene products, as well as tire cords.

Chemically, viscose resembles cotton, but it can also take on many different qualities depending on how it is manufactured.

Wouldn't undigested items get passed out in your poop? It would have to be digested to be converted to fat.

That kind of stupidity always comes from government programs designed to "support" prices for the benefit of campaign donors.

Think ethanol in your gas. Farmers lobbied hard for that because seed and fertilizer tech produced higher yields and prices dropped. I don't know if ethanol in gas is prominent everywhere, but it forces us in the midwest to put stuff in our small engines in the winter for mowers, 4 wheelers, etc and snowmobiles in the summer.

Slightly different then burying it, but at least the excess is getting used albeit with some extra maintenance on machines.

I don't really pay attention to what clothing is made of. Just checked a shirt and no polyester. I wear the fishing shirts typically. They breath well and no sunscreen needed if I'm gonna be outside. Year round usage as well just might have long john warm material in the winter underneath. I get made fun of by buddies because it looks like I'm always going fishing and I rarely do.
