Find some family farms which sell rendered tallow and fry up some stuff.
It's expensive compared to less expensive, but still costly vegetable oils.
It's ironic that over 100 years ago, in rural America, families took cow and hog fat to fry their foods. The tradition of fried foods came from the rural kill and render your own animal fat tradition.
I wish I could buy a gallon or two of rendered tallow for cheap. Potatoes and fries would taste awesome, not to mention Turducken or shrimp . . .
