At this point, it only matters what agreements are made between the Ukrainian government and the Russian government. It's going to be months, if not years, before we find out what happened. I fully expect to see fully bombed out cities and apartment complexes, but I also expect them to be pictures from Pripyat and, I dunno, Syria. Listened to two Russians speaking about war. One is Babchenko, who served for years (4 or 5) in First and Second Chechen wars in Russian army, and was a Russian war correspondent in 2008 Georgia war. So, a person familiar with Russian army. He is extremely pro-Ukrainian at this point. Second is Igor Girkin, who is probably a GRU colonel and was the person who started Donbass war in 2014. They have diametrically opposite political persuasions but their estimate of what happens on ground and what this will end with are somewhat similar. Neither of them is a soyboy/Western armchair specialist of the crush Ukraine in 2 days with 1 parachute regiment type.

Less probable is that they just want to increase tensions to get something out of the West (higher oil/gas prices, promises about non-expansion of NATO, etc).
If they do invade, ZH and a lot of skeptics owe Bidet & Co an apology of sorts. Everything goes to crap if invasion happens, as in economy of the world, residual civil liberties, etc, and one can blame Russians for inflation, loss of life quality, etc, instead of real culprit Bidet.
If I'd be conspiratorial, I'd say that Bidet agents in Russia will push for Russian invasion, but on other hand current CIA and military here can only shout pronouns at enemies as seen from Afghanistan debacle.
