Unvaccinated in Austria to be banned from restaurants, public event..
VIENNA, Austria: Under new rules that took effect on November 8, the Austrian government said unvaccinated people who have not contracted COVID-19 will be barred from entering restaurants, hotels and hair salons, or attending public events with more than 25 people.
After meeting state leaders to discuss rapidly rising coronavirus cases in the country, Austrian Chancellor Alexander Schallenberg announced the new rules to reporters on Friday evening.
"It is simply our responsibility to protect people in our country," Schallenberg said, noting the rising case numbers and increasingly full intensive care units at hospitals.
Those vaccinated or recovered, or others who could could provide negative test results, could previously enter restaurants, hotels and other public areas, but the government is now planning a four-week transition period to encourage the unvaccinated to get their shots, during which time those who have received one vaccine dose and can show a negative PCR test will be allow to attend events and enter the listed businesses.
However, after four weeks, only fully vaccinated people or those who have recovered from COVID-19 will be allowed entry. Earlier this week, the capital, Vienna, announced similar rules.
On Saturday, the country reported a record of 9,923 daily cases, and in the past seven days, the infection rate rose from 317.4 cases per 100,000 persons to 522.4 cases per 100,000. If the situation continues to deteriorate, further restrictions on unvaccinated people could be implemented.
Currently, 66 percent of Austrians have received one vaccine dose, while 64.5 percent are fully vaccinated, which is one of the lowest rates in Western Europe.
This week the Austrian government announced all adults who were vaccinated six months ago are eligible for a booster dose.
Schallenberg called again on unvaccinated Austrians to be vaccinated, stressing that it is a "moral responsibility."
Forcing vaccines on those who have natural immunity reveals the true agenda of the governments. (hint: It's hardly about public health) Likewise with the absolute intolerance of other possible medications, especially medications with a long history of safety.
Have boots on the ground in Austria. It's bad. SIL moved from the UK back to Austria where she was last season and couldn't stand the UK. Just had a kid. Breast feeding and won't get vaccinated as she's super body/health conscious and doesn't trust the vax. She cannot leave the house/apartment. Her husband and her already had Covid too.
Not my country, but as more double down on stupid, more countries will follow. My SIL is making the right choice though. No one has any clue what these vaccines could do to an infant long term if breast feeding. She's literally in jail though at this point. They have a dog over there too. Husband travels for work. It's not a good situation. Fines are 1,600 euro I believe. They have a newborn and 2-1/2 year old. Good luck being locked up.
She should just move back to the states. Fly back to visit the husband once every other month for a week and we'd watch her kids. Likely his last season. Short term pain, but I'd say it's safer for my new niece to not have vaccinated tit milk.
Wow, thanks for the field report WookieMan. That is quite eyeopening.
Scary more like it considering it's central Europe. Nothing has ever gone wrong there.... She tested positive in Austria last year for Covid. They sent government workers to her apartment daily while both of them were infected.
Austria has a huge vaccine resistance. So they're cracking down hard on those not vaccinated. My SIL has a legit excuse feeding a newborn. We have it bad here, but maybe not as bad as we think. Maybe that's the point. Every time another country gets more authoritarian, we ask "maybe we don't have it that bad, look at this place" and just accept what is happening.
And I know the OP is copy pasting from an article, but it legit is anyone not vaccinated. Having covid in the past or not. My BIL is a professional athlete. They have to stay up on the laws or they don't play or get a check and would be homebound. Not the US, but as the overreach continues, others will try the same. It has to be stopped.
