The U.S. government has raped and tortured people in Gitmo and Abu Ghraib allegedly to protect our "democracy". The electoral college appointing someone other than the winner of the election, especially someone who didn't even run, is a far greater threat to democracy. Sorry, but some things do justify violent revolution and preserving the republic qualifies. I doubt the particular people making this particular threat have the balls to carry it out, but armed insurrection is an appropriate response to any government trying to turn it's republic into an appointed despot against the will of the people. That didn't work out too well for Rome.
