How in the world did Starbucks manage to slowly and methodically convince society that filtered water with a squirt of caramel is worth $5?

And why are we supporting this sick company?

I worked with some of their tech guys a few years ago and was so impressed that I bought the stock. It has done well for me.

Would you buy it at today's price?

I think there's too much competition today from other chains now. The big fat growth years are over. But the stock has been doing well because they don't just sell coffee, their food items - while overpriced - are pretty decent. But mainly it's a great pickup spot. Thinking back I can't count how many chicks I talked up at one of the downtown SBUX back then and ended up banging after a few repeat run-ins. They sell a lifestyle, their mostly shitty coffee is secondary and their mix drinks are for sugar addicts. Nitro and cold brews are decent though - of course overpriced as well.

Starbucks is for people who do not like the taste of coffee but want the caffeine. Hence all the flavorings.

For that kind of money they should have hot lesbians licking and sucking each other on every table to entertain the clients

And the Gentleman's latte on the menu.

I actually enjoy Starbuck coffee, and don't mind paying $2.39 for a medium cofffee.

Starbucks is one of the few places that makes a consistent beverage. I used to frequent Dunkin, but they are generally ran by a bunch of Indian types who are pissed off and need a shower. At Starbucks I get good service, and often get free drinks since I know the barista.

I also frequented acme, rev, verve and other hipster joints in the past, but the staff were usually self entitled hipsters who hated life.

I feel the exact opposite. Starbucks has that "Burnt West Coast on the Hot plate too long" Taste. Dunkies has 50 years of buying coffee and locks up the best supply. Unlike Starbucks, it always seems to me the coffee at Dunkies is made continuously whereas Starbucks seems to come from an everful container and I seldom have seen Starbucks people making the actual coffee.

Also, Dunkies puts in the cream and splenda for you, as well as the lid. Starbucks charges more, acts all snooty, but makes you do it yourself.

Dunkies comports somewhat to local tastes and customs, Starbucks is the same everywhere.

Finally, Dunkies is a Franchise rather than a Multinational; even though Shamir might send cash home, he's probably still spending a bit in the neighborhood. Schultz is using the money to expand abroad.

It's not as bad as some mom-and-pop coffee places that actually charge more for coffee than Starbucks.

Why anyone buys coffee from someone else and doesn't make their own is beyond me. Rarely do I ever get a good cup of just black coffee from any chain, gas station or hipster joint.

With Kuerig style makers and reusable filters you can put your own grounds in, freshly ground that morning mind you, and you can make a good sized cup in 2 minutes. So time is no excuse. You're also able to source your own beans that are easily much higher quality than what chains are getting in bulk.
