HOAs should be outlawed and the tax burden on those occupants have their taxes accessed accordingly for fees and maintenance.

HOA have there pros and cons. But what I think it comes down to is if you dont want to live in an HOA then dont buy a house in an HOA. Just like if you dont want to live next to a gas station, freeway, or industrial zone. I think HOAs became so popular because of third worlders and the usual problematic types moving into neighborhoods and ruining the place.

I think HOAs became so big because it helped builders sell homes. I've never looked it up but, it would be interesting to know if HOA homes appreciate faster than non HOA homes. That would be the only thing needed to make everyone want to live/purchase in an HOA. EVERYTHING comes down to $$$.

A lot of local governments like them...especially the ones that take over maintenance of roads, sewers, water mains and even telecom.
