If you can't do the time, don't do the crime. Looks like Texas has it's own version of our 3 strikes and your out. I'm glad she's white, or some people would be screaming injustice and inequality.

She should be tied to a tree the back yard of the homeowner who she stole the Christmas lights, next the bouncy house during the kids next birthday party. And made to watch all those happy people eating their cake and playing pin the tail on the Grinch.

Yes, theft should be punished. But 70 years for theft of power tools is cruel, inhuman, and ridiculous.

Meanwhile, bankers and financial professionals steal or destroy hundreds of billions of dollars a year through white collar crime and not a single one spends even a night in jail.

Our criminal system is like the one in Les Misérables that persecuted Jean Valjean.

The length of the sentence isn't because of the power tools; it's because of her previous crimes. And I don't think the Christmas lights have anything to do with it; that's just media sensationalism. However, 70 years seems pretty ridiculous, even with her rap sheet.

Which is exactly why it is unjust, Unconstitutional, and Unamerican. She already paid for her previous crimes. To tack on 70 years, an effective life sentence, for crimes for which she already served her time is to try her a second times for those crimes and to sentence her twice for them, with the second sentencing being absurd.
