I first bought in around $12, and bought in chunks on the way down to $7, so my avg. is around $10.... It's now around $12, and hoping for some real gains in the next 2 years...

I agree that BioFuel won't cut it. IIRC, out of the 3 'areas' of products (fuel/chemicals, cosmetics/personal care, food), biofuel has the lowest margins.......I think the foray into Palm Kernel Oil is interesting... It's an interesting company to watch. It seems like it has made good on all of its ramp up production levels on schedule to date.... I'm just jonesing for more info, as the new plants with Bunge, etc get built out...

@AverageBear,

This company has been losing money and will be losing money again next year. In my opinion, this is a speculative stock.

@Don

Do you know anything about or have an opinion on mycodiesel? A fungus that can naturally digest wood directly into diesel fuel sounds like a strong competitor to algae.

That's what start ups do in the beginning...But when all that production comes online in 2014, that's when the fun starts... Then there's the patent portfolio ....

i was checking out the Yahoo message boards, and there is some VERY encouraging items on Solazyme, including a NY Times article released this weekend....

http://www.nytimes.com/2013/06/23/business/for-solazyme-a-side-trip-on-the-way-to-clean-fuel.html?pagewanted=1&_r=0&ref=business

...Items below culled from the Yahoo Message board....

The Week Ahead For SZYM
Thought I'd use this space to highlight Friday's action and the week ahead for SZYM. Things look extremely promising for a massive breakout:

* Strong SZYM close Friday @ $12.62
* Huge AH trade at 4:30pm of 580,100 shares
* New York Times Article: "For Solazyme, a side trip on the way to clean fuel" (Weekend release of the article on the front page of BOTH Business & Science Sections).
* Announcement of the opening Of Lestrem coming this week
* Obama speech at Georgetown on Tuesday
* Great technicals at play which serve as the foundation for any of these catalysts to cause a breakout
* Potential for a massive short squeeze

However, beware. There are quite the amount of items they have put to market. Their good are made from genetically modified algae, otherwise known as genetically modified organisms. If items were required to be labled that contained GMO produces, like a simple bar of soap with a oil from GMO algae, that soap would have to carry a label as well.

Don, this is a very good point you bring up. The nutritional segment that they plan on entering can face headwinds if govt's have a problem w/ GMOs..... perceptions of harmfullness; real or not....

WooHoo! Solazyme had a little POP today. If Unilever is convinced, then I think good things are going to happen quickly....
