I have a question about the upcoming expiration of unemployment benefits. I have some friends who were unemployed for a year in CA. They just started on their federal extension this month and are expecting another year of federal checks. I hate to tell them that their checks will stop in December if congress lets the extension expire.... They seem to believe they will be grandfathered into another year of benefits because they re-upped already, before the extension expired! So who is correct?

Personally i know alot of people that were two household earners... Now they are one household earners w/ one person collecting unemployment. My family included... Thankfully we are renters saving still on my income alone... But i forsee bad things for those that are relying on those extended benefits to pay a mortgage.

99 Weeks.

I know a few folks who been out of a job over 2 years. After 99 weeks, your on your own.

"Thankfully we are renters saving still on my income alone"

This is why all the crap we heard about "dual income" families buying up $1M shacks is so stinky wrong!

The tier you'r on by the end of the this month is the last tier you will be on unless they extend the tiers again.

In CA there are 4 Federal tiers after the 26-week state UE. Tier I is 20 weeks, Tier II is 13+1, Tier III is 13, and Tier IV is 6, for 79 weeks of state UE + federal extensions. There is also the FED-ED program that runs after all tiers are exhausted, for 20 weeks. But that will terminate dead Dec 4 for all payees unless things are extended.

from the sounds of it, looks like Obama will be willing to bend on his tax cut requirement that it expire for the top earners in some form.

This would be so the idiots among us can see what they are really voting for.

~40% of the population wants to extend the top-tier tax cuts for whatever reason.

They voted; the people who didn't care about this didn't vote. If the Republicans want to use this fact to keep these cuts, I won't oppose them. Elections do in fact have consequences.

Talking about dual income, there is a really good video of Elizabeth Warren talking about that.
It's an one hour video but it's worth it.
