Even with disagreements, I think this group is at a higher level of function. I do think hate is necessary to make change to some extent. I don't actually hate anyone. I've never been in a physical altercation. I don't seek shit out like that. I think the people of patnet are genuine people. We're not always going to agree.

Obviously Palestine and Isreal triggered this comment. What can you or I control? Citizens and kids die daily in conflict zones across the globe. Television was meant to be obsoleted by the Internet. Philo Farnsworth invented electronic television, he expected it to be an information and educational device, able to bring the best education to anybody anywhere in the world, and was so disgusted at how his invention was perverted, he banned it from being in his home.

Now the Internet can be just as useless, but for those that have used it for information, and not just mindless entertainment, it doesn't take long before "entertainment" becomes merely annoying because there's a lot to learn, and it's interesting. People hunger for information, and television refuses to provide it. It's taken 70 years for people to AGE OUT of this phase of "entertainment" consumption, but we're getting there.

Television has been the MAIN VECTOR of propaganda and coverups for all my life. It's what allows a criminal syndicate to be in control of this nation, and I welcome its destruction. I welcome the destruction of the asshole companies trying to turn the Internet into another goddamned television. People are complaining about streaming services, "there's too many, they are too exclusive" - good, pirate the garbage you think you want to see, consume it, and get a bellyache of nonsense and garbage - eat all you want until you're sick of it.

You're right, nobody watches television anymore. FINALLY, victory. People would watch television shows to have something to talk about at the water cooler, now that there's dozens of streaming services, video on demand that covers the last 50 years, data storage is cheap, and piracy is everywhere, people don't have overlap in what they consume. They have to recommend it, suggest it, and it's a lot easier to give somebody a USB stick filled with the garbage than it is to convince them to sign up for a steaming service.

I went through THAT phase 15 years ago and this is the tech capital of the world, it was easy to do for me back then, now it's easy for anybody. Plug in a USB drive into your television, every file that can be played on it, will play on it. 128GB flash drive is $15, that will store about 120 hours of HD video. My neighbor wanted to see Battlestar Galatica, the 2000 version of it. It's 59 hours long in total, and 36GB. I threw in Star Trek the Next Generation - that's a total of 134 hours, 57 GB. He won't be able to get through that in 2 months.

TV isn't like heroin, it's like ice cream. Sure some people will become 600 lb land whales given unlimited and free ice cream, but most people, they just get sick of it and will never eat it again.

You know why people listen to "news"? It's because they are HOPING to get SOME amount of information out of it because they think they benefited from it before, they think they got information from it previously. Maybe they did, after listing to 100's of hours of the garbage, they got maybe an hour's work of information out of it. Once they get onto the Internet and find a reliable source of information, they don't go back. Don Lemon is finding that out, he's now a "free agent". Tucker Carlson is doing OK, for now, but he better start becoming more informative, I don't think he'll last long otherwise.

I enjoyed Leno shows all the time. Comedy is a great truth telling tool to wake-up who is slacking to help themselves to learn what is not ok! A self correcting mechanism for any functioning society. I tend to agree with this. But the ones that run... were they being honest? My guess is no. I'm not ever going to dox myself, but I could prove pretty much every comment on this site from me if we had a meet up. Some opinions and predictions might have been wrong. But anything I've commented on about my personal life without giving too much away has been truthful.

My life has been amazing bad. I share it here as therapy so to speak. I've lied in person, but what's the point in lying here? The use of Hate in this context, is purely a mental trap. One side has a valid argument, so the other side can only diminish the impact of their grievances by labeling them with unfounded hate. Emotions become extreme when it feels like they have no resolution. I've disagreed on "mainstream" views on plenty of topics my entire life but I never experienced feeling genuine hatred until I felt my voice was neither being acknowledged or being considered as valid. I've never liked the people of my city very much, that mild neutrality turned into hatred when people openly supported mask and vaccine mandates despite there being much evidence those protocols don't work.

Such experience is repeated with several other topics. I was in university when these gender things started bubbling up and I had what I thought were quaint conversations with people that had very odd and unhealthy ideas about sexuality. I never once considered that I hated them, until many years later those same ideas are now being lauded as just as important as math and reading. When it became clear that they were uninterested in seeing what everyone else thought as valid, then hatred began to bubble up.

To conclude, such feelings are inevitable on an internet forum. Are you really going to change someone's mind on a topic that they care deeply about with just a few paragraphs? Maybe not, it might be worth a shot once or twice. Approaching the same people over and over again, with the expectation that they'll suddenly align with your views, is only setting yourself up to get mad. Sometimes it may very well be that both people are right and some things are more complicated than we imagine. Alas, I am rambling to internet strangers.

Nope. I'm a parent. I teach my kids. Also my district isn't gay. The teachers are educated for the job, but live country life. You won't see a rainbow flag in my town.

To clarify, I don't know of any patnetters who hate each other. I was referring to the societal trend that I also see playing out here where individuals have developed an irrational hatred of particular groups of people. To the point where they will justify almost any atrocity committed against that group. I believe in every case these individuals have never actually met or gotten to know anyone from this group they hate so much.
I agree with Rick that alot of times this hatred is fueled by propaganda devised to divide people along the lines of false dichotomies. But regardless of the reason, this trend of de-humanizing, and attempting to box people into a false-dilemma does not bode well for our future.
