You don't need a special permit for concealed weapons in Florida as of today.

Bull Shit.

9.9999 out of 10 times, it's the Thug that pulls the concealed gun out of the pocket of his hoody that indiscriminately shoots people.
I think open carry like this will make people more civil and think before they take out their Tony Soprano fantasies on others, when they don't get their way.
I think there will be an uptick in assholes with a gun getting gut checked by an armed populous.

People are going to have to be nice, grow thick skin and just realize they aren't that fucking important to lash out every time they fell "dissed".

Last night I went to a local pup with a friend for a few beers. The inside is a mellow crowd 45+, live music and people open to friendly conversation.
The patio, has a mix of Millennials and GenZ and aging Liberal clientele. The exit to the parking lot, is out the back where the patio is.
When it was time to leave, I stopped and waited for my friend to come out of the bathroom and make his way out. I was smoking a Cig(I smoke when I drink) at a table and they had a fan blowing. And an ember flew in the direction of this fat blue hair chick in her 20's. She screams "WHAT THE FUCK!" I said Oh sorry, where in the hell did that wind come from? There was a powerful fan blowing right behind me. She's still trying to make something out of it. As I'm getting out of the way of the fan's path. One of her friends runs out the parking lot,(Some folks congregate outside) and comes back in with this tall black guy. She points at me and tells him, "There he is!" He comes up and is hovering over me, and asks "Is there a problem?" I motioned for him to bend down closer, I didn't want the triggered Liberals to hear me. I told him in his ear.
"I'm sorry but the scary black guy is not a valid form of intimidation, do you have anything bigger?" He just looked at me, looked at the fat blue hairs he was about to make a fuss about then walked back outside. I then put out my cigarette as my friend was walking out and left.

I was thinking things are already getting back to civil. Perhaps he didn't want to chance if I had a gun.

Or the bluff did not work, and he decided she was not worth the fight.

Same deal in Texas although getting a license is worthwhile. At least you get some form of training and learn the laws about where and when you're allowed to carry. How to read the signs on businesses related to that, etc.,.

There are other benefits for example, say you left a gun in your bag and forgot about it before you tried to go through TSA at an airport and they find it.

If you have a license you're allowed to go put it in your vehicle then come back through and not miss your flight. If you don't you're definitely missing your flight and it can be much worse than that.

What is useful about the concealed permit is the explanation in the brief class about Florida law about when you can use a weapon.

It also explains where you can't bring it.
"nuisance areas" is what the law calls casinos, bars, strip joints; don't bring it there.

I like knowing it's in my car, I don't carry it around.

For the curious, herewith when you may "use" a weapon in Florida.
Use is not limited to shooting or stabbing with it; maybe just brandishing it is all you want to do.

1. If you reasonably believe that the "bad guy" is going to cause imminent death or serious bodily injury to a person, which does not have to be you.

2. If you are in your "castle"; you can shoot anyone in your house, yacht, tent, or entering your car without knowing why he is in there. All are considered the same thing under the law.

If a guy is attacking someone with a nerf noodle you probably aren't allowed to use a weapon on him; if it's a club or a bat, you can.

Should put this on the ballot as a proposition on California, just to cause a total shit show.

just brandishing

Is considered, "use of force", in texas and may cause you to wind up in prison.

Another advantage of concealed carry license in TX - fewer speeding tickets. Cops mostly give warnings, happened to me last week in a rural place. Instead of a ticket, had a nice chat with a cop about handguns and he gave me a warning.

I let my CC expire because of this experience :

On a 4 lane section of [45MPH] city street a city cop was doing 35 MPH in left hand lane and I passed him on the right. He immediately hit the sirens and pulled me over - which I did immediately after exiting the main boulevard to ensure our mutual safety - less than 30 seconds after he hit his lights.

Now, I had a spotless driving record of at least two decades and no criminal history, so to me this is a bullshit pull over. But this cop is sitting in his car for far too long - like 10 minutes go by. Suddenly two more cop cars pull up behind the first and within 30 seconds I had three cops advance on me with pistols at the ready position and the first cop shouting at me to get out of the car with my hands up. I complied with all cop wishes.

Now, I don't have proof that they ran my plates and saw that I had a CC (which was somewhat rare back then due to the cost and time commitments) but I can't think of any other reason for this response. By sheer luck I was not CC'ing that day.

The outcome? A stern lecture but no ticket. Fucking ass hat.

I still CC most of the time, but fuck if I'll ever get a permit for it again.

I took the virginia required CC class but changed my mind about getting the license because I just didn't want to be added to list. I wanted to get it in case society turned upside down. I decided if things were to get truly bad I won't be asking permission to carry, I'll just do it.
