Of course, the problem is, how do you handle the excess traffic. The guy doing the most to research the issue of closed access cities is Kevin Erdmann, and he wants zoning changes: http://idiosyncraticwhisk.blogspot.com/
I see the gridlock on LA roads and wonder how it can be fixed? I don't think it can. SF too. Back in the early 1900's, monorails were going to be big. The tire companies and big oil put a stop to them.

Yes, you would need major zoning changes. This severe shortage of housing is impeding growth. We need to fix it quick.
How do we overcome NIMBY?
But Strategist, answer my question? How do you overcome what traffic already exists on the 405? Or the 5? Or...
How can California increase the number of homes that people can afford?
Eliminate all Open Space in a community unless landlords can raise a ransom of $100M between themselves.

Higher density home building could be one solution, because people will be able to live near their work instead of living far away and having to drive long distances.

People who want to break the closed access city and give more people opportunity to live there often talk about densely populated areas, with work close by. Over time, people change jobs, get better cars, see better opportunities. I don't know, maybe it would work. But Trump is talking about changing the cities, which means, he probably wants to get rid of the lower class areas and develop them into hotels and lakes.
Oh, and one more thing. I remember being in LA in the early 1970's when Silverlake was sort of poor. Now it pushed the poor people out. Seems like all of LA is like that.
Deporting millions of illegal aliens should help free up housing quite a bit, especially in CA.

Half the people Trump plans on deporting are probably in jail. They should be deported first.

Making California housing affordable again will require new laws, more avenues to build
