You may know Proposition 13, have you heard of 14?

Reagan, what a character!

This was before my time, but I saw it mentioned in Nixonland, in passing.

Great book, tomorrow I'm getting Invisible Bridge from the library, as a good socialist should.

You mean the Republicans were opposed to a law banning landlords from discriminating? That can't be! The Republican talking point is that the Democrats are the party of Ray's Cysts.

First on the left, bottom row.

Ronald Reagan was a supporter of Proposition 14. In 1964 Ronald Reagan stated in a press release as "an ardent supporter of Proposition 14, and later explained, “If an individual wants to discriminate against Negroes or others in selling or renting his home, he has a right to do so.”

Well that must be a mistake, or misattributed or something. Republicans would never admit to something like that in a press release, they'd only whisper it to each other using codewords.

Man that Reagan quote is this-close to becoming memory-holed.

Google's got basically two decent hits on it.

We should really rename all the shit that's been put in that dickhead's name.

Of course our homegrown taliban christianists are wheeling out the exact same putative right to discriminate again:
