Monte Carlo, Monaco, is the most expensive city in the world to rent an apartment, according to Global Property Guide. The average rent there, in U.S. dollars, is $10,099 a month for an apartment that is 120 square meters (about 1,292 square feet). Click through the gallery to see other expensive locations on the list.

No doubt, I looked up some rentals:

500 euros ($700) will get you a maid's room, 10 sq m (~100 sf):

3500 euros, 500 sq ft 1 BR

9000 euros, 1700 sq ft 3 BR listed as "Family apartment on the Avenue Hector Otto - Parking and Cave storage"

These are all below the "average"!

And this is my favorite: http://www.montecarlo-realestate.com/en/fiches/26434-closed-parking-space.html (150,000 euros!!!)
