If NO taper moves us into record territory, at what point will we taper?

The Federal Reserve is not going to slow down the pace of its bond purchases yet. And that was just what investors wanted to hear.
The S&P 500 immediately jumped to a new record high, and the Dow quickly followed. The Nasdaq also moved up after the Fed's surprise announcement.

If we are in record territory, why do we need stimulus? At what record level will someone decide that we are okay to proceed without stimulus?

Stocks continued to rise as Fed chair Ben Bernanke laid out plans to maintain the central bank's "highly accomodative monetary policy" for the foreseeable future, even if the Fed eventually chooses to taper.

"if"??????

Clearly, the fed realizes that the following statement (from their office) is complete bullshit and the fundamentals will NOT support growth without continued stimulus.

"Taking into account the extent of federal fiscal retrenchment, the Committee sees the improvement in economic activity and labor market conditions since it began its asset purchase program a year ago as consistent with growing underlying strength in the broader economy," the Fed said in a statement.

It should be so obvious that if they taper .. something bad will happen. Most likely they won't take another stab at it until when Bernanke is gone.
Taper is just all talk no action, people getting rich off the whole scheme.

Yes, the dow might plummet to 14,000. Could you imagine the repercussions? They are like spoiled children threatening to move out of the house if they are crossed. Mom, out of fear, let's them run ramshod. It amazes me that we cannot even "ease" the QE a bit just to "test the waters."

Of course we would find our economy is a farce and be skee-rewed. :-)

Well with Yellen, it will be turbocharged QE. Unless something catastrophic happens, I think this "bull" run has a few years left. I guess I got out a bit early-but hey a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. I will stay out for a bit.
