I have a vision of eventually buying a beach condo in Florida for my parents one day. Every now and then I get the urge to check out some places. Just today was one of them. The first click at filter condos under 200K min 2bd/2ba was more plentiful than normal. The last time I did this was about 6 months ago. Who said we had low inventory? Not in Florida.

I'd have a hard time paying a penny over 70K for a 2 br condo, and 35K for a 1br. That's all they are worth considering you are buying the right to be told how to live and what to do. These prices were more in line when south Florida condos were for nothing more than a place for rich New York attorneys to move their pain in the ass Elderly parents to Florida and out of their hair.
Somehow along the way, these places became trendy to live in. People in their 30's and 40's intentionally living in these buildings, are the types of people that makes a huge hassle out of every thing they do in life.
I guess they feel like they would be getting screwed somehow if they didn't pay 200K for a stacked cracker box, and a unit next door to the 80 year old Condo association president.

$200K for a condo is ridiculous. It's cramped, you hear your old neighbors having sex at all ours of the day -- yeah, that's what it's really like in Florida -- and the buildings are old and rundown.

It's like living in a college dorm except replacing the hot college students with old people. Why would you pay $200K + monthly HOA fees for that?
