The D.C. Sniper was put to death tonight.  I have no problem with the death penalty, I wished they'd have killed him when they found him to save time & money.

But why is it that he was put to death so quickly - they happened in 2002 - when we have men & women languishing on death row in this country for much longer?

Three shots, 1 kill.

1st puts him to sleep
2nd stops his breathing
3rd stops his heart

one rope
one tree
one per hour
one per county
live on pay-per-view
my way would result in fewer murders and rapes

ellie, you are correct. For example, Richard Allen Davis still lives.

He was executed quickly because the evidence was very strong against him, with multiple eye witnesses. Most people on death row are there on less solid evidence, as seen by the number of people exonerated by DNA evidence. Most of the time there isn't a single eye witness.

I fully support the death penalty when you have such a clear cut case like this.

He fell from Allah's grace long time ago and turned toward a path of destruction. Being a Muslim, I never would condone his actions however, I am at odds with the death penalty just as much so I am with abortion and gay rights.

Even in my old age, I cannot say if either of these offenses (Death Penalty, Abortion, Homosexuality) against GOD & moral value is justifiable or whether we should show tolerance for them as we do currently.

So this is the kind of friends you keep Elliemae?...ones that condone lynching, spew venom about “crack addicted single mother of 5 (each with a different daddy) that is a 6th generations-removed slave” and have no remorse for their actions nor any of their ancestors?

I am not sure that I read your previous posts correctly, I took you to be somewhat honorable?

Yea, Clarence -
I am responsible for the comments that other people, whom I've never met, write in response to my posts.

I don't know Bap, other than the comments he/she makes and I respect that he shares his opinion, whether or not I agree. At least Bap doesn't profess to hide behind religion, then attack for comments that others make - and then question their honor...

I find your comment cruel and more offensive than anything Bap or even OTS has said. They were up front with their accusations.

I say strap him in a chair under a 2 inch sheet of plate glass, raised 100 feet then drop it on him.

Some people say that just knowing that you'll be put to death eventually is punishment enough. But I think that the guy ought to have been tortured first. It's just that most people wouldn't be able to torture Muhammend to the extent that he deserved. We need a pompous, self-absorbed guy without a soul who could be very cruel and continue to live with himself, regardless of the lives he affected. Where's Dick Cheney when we (finally) need him?

That would be cruel have Dick Cheney Read a few chapters of "Love and Peace", while Carl Rove gives him self a pedicure in a chair directly in front of him.

Ooh no scratch that, Barney Frank will be reading passages from "Love and Peace".

You call seven years quick?! I guess when some stay on death row for nearly 20 years it is fairly quick by comparison. What must rank as the shortest duration from time of commission of a capital crime until punishment was exacted happened in 1953.

Six year old Bobby Greenlease was the son of Robert Cosgrove Greenlease’s old age, who was 65 when Bobby was born. He had adopted a son in 1917, but had always wanted a blood heir. He divorced his first wife in the 30’s and remarried a lady of 29 in 1939 when he was 57. Their first child, a daughter, was born in 1942 and Bobby in 1947.

Greenlease began selling the then three-year-old brand of Cadillac in about 1905 and when Cadillac became part of General Motors in 1908 he had first choice of territories. By 1953 he had dealerships all over the country and was worth something like $64 million, making him a prime target for kidnappers.

The kidnappers, Bonnie Heady and an ex-con Carl Hall, kidnapped Bobby from his school on September 28, 1953. A $600,000 ransom was demanded and ultimately paid on October 5. Heady and Hall were arrested on October 6 and Bobby’s body was found on October 7—he had been dead virtually from the very first day of the kidnapping, although the pair had told the parents he was fine.

They confessed in an effort to avoid the death penalty, and the punishment phase began on November 16—they were condemned to death on November 19. On December 18, 1953, both Heady and Hall were executed in the gas chamber at the same time, 81 days after the crime.
