The excessive VA payments result from an issue that happened around 2010. There was a scandal caused by the exposure of the VA providing little to no care for severely wounded Vets, including amputees. The head of VA was fired and Congress passed sweeping reforms. Now. instead of omitting care for those that needed it, the pendulum swung so far the other way that even veterans with non-service related injuries were highly compensated. I know one guy who was injured in a car wreck that was collecting $45/mo at that time who had his cash benefit expanded to $800 per week plus another $300 pew week from SS. All tax free. Free medical for life and VA home loan bennies. State benefits too, like free car plates and free fresh and salt water fishing licenses.

The ones that are boomers are getting 100% and all of their issues are from getting old and started collecting near retirement in the early 2000s. They all brag about it with no shame talking about gaming the system. The younger ones under 50 are usually a bit more quiet about it since they are working full time jobs while collecting. One even was collecting for STD he got from woman on base, just so you know this one is at least legit VA does give disability for STDs but that in its self seems like bullshit to me. It is so bad I think at least half the people receiving direct payments are a fraud.
Then there is the VA hospital they waste so much money on the way they are run. The staff is next to impossible to fire and act like typical DMV employees in CA. My father was injured very badly by a VA employee and it was impossible to hold anyone accountable. I have also seen a vast difference between VA hospitals which I think should be more consistent but I understand like everything else the ones in large cities tend to be more missed up.
I understand and have seen that there are a lot of veterans that need help but there is so much fraud going on that needs to stop. I think all of this fraud is hurting veterans that really need help and are not getting it because of all the fraudsters slowing things down. It seems every single government entitlement that is just giving people payments just turns into a fraud issue.
