"Report: Israel hacked Tehran traffic cameras to track Khamenei ahead of assassination".

Anyone here on Patrick.net who has read 1984 will recognize the pattern. Article says hacked traffic cameras were used to build detailed “pattern of life” profiles, tracking movements, routines, and associations to enable a targeted strike. Orwell’s warning was simple: constant surveillance gives those in power the ability to know where you are and what you are doing at all times.

Here is what scares me a bit, this is not unique to Iran. United States has same widespread public cameras and private systems like doorbell cameras generating continuous surveillance. Guaranteed our intel agencies are spying on everyone. When that data can be collected and analyzed, the privacy implications are serious. They can do same to us one day. 1984 does not feel far away... but hey it sure made that Amazon delivery really convenient.

In my neighborhood, it was Home Depot that paid for the traffic surveillance cameras. I think they put them up at every intersection within a mile or two of their store. Feed goes to the police. I don't like them personally, but once when some guys did a robbery of some big equipment they were caught within a half mile of trying their getaway.

I think they give us a glimpse into exactly how much power our own government has over us. Because we also live in surveillance state. We have same street cameras, everyone has a ring doorbell camera, everyone is spied upon 24/7 and all that data is stored and analyzed. For my generation that's a scary thing to lose that much privacy. I know younger people don't care, they don't mind living in outdoor prison as long as Amazon delivers and there's Netflix.

This is why we need an explicit Constitutional right to privacy.

Create an amendment establishing a Constitutional right to privacy because it is not perfectly clear from existing law that we have this right.

Government, ha! Your average burglar now puts a camera on your front lawn and watches your daily routine via cellular link to learn when you are and aren't at home.
