To the untrained eye, at spotting Commie propaganda it would have seemed he was deriding the Establishment, but Glendale was him thumbing his nose at the Fly Over White folks, that vote for George Bush. It was an album of those fly over Whities, crying about the social and economic conditions, that the Obama administration was imposing on them.

If it wasn't obvious at the time, then it damn sure should have been, when Trump's political rise, base created a perfect Life imitating Art in Trump supporters.

Neil Young despised every second of it, he loathed the sight of it. If he had been genuine, he would have demanded Trump let him perform live at every rally.
But instead he sued him, over playing his music, but what he really wanted was to shut him down and shut him up.

I'd disagree. His voice was whiney, so you're spot on there. Guitar play was average. Maybe a good songwriter like most of how country music is built, though Young would be considered Rock I suppose.

Get a writer and a chiseled dude or chick with a rack and have them perform what you wrote. That's what Neil Young is. He's a song writer and not a performer.

During the Mirrorball live tour he outperformed Pearl Jam live by 1000x - he is one of those guys who can keep rocking with one or two broken strings and still sound great. I'd say good songwriter and guitarist, and pretty good live performance. Still an asshole, but many if not most leftoid hippies transformed to the authoritarian left during their lives as they got older, wealthier and more scared of life.

David Crosby gets the "Asshole Narcissist" crown from the Laurel Canyon era, with Stephen Stills and Neil Young honorable mentions. Maybe Neil is still competing.
