I wish there was a way for the way-more-numerous Supporters of Common Sense to push back against the Forces of Cancelation. Like how would the average schmo out there support Chappelle right now as the Frantic Grievance Machine gears up? I wish I was still signed up for Netflix so I could drop it when they pull his special on Monday.

Dave Chapelle, like Dolly Parton, is an American Treasure.

I've loved Dave Chapelle forever, but his "special" that he released right after the George Floyd riots was an awful piece of shit.

Did any of you watch Sticks and Stones. The guy was defending pedophilia saying kids raped by Michael Jackson would brag about it. That's the last time I've watched anything by him. Not even sure if I can still stomach Half Baked, and that was one of my favorite stoner movies.

Chapelle doesn't need anyone to cancel him, he's doing a good job cancelling himself.

There's some truth to it. Parents bragged about their children hanging out with mj at neverland and getting gifts and favors. Still sick though.

No, it's the same type of parents that would prostitute their children for money.

You should have zero respect for any "celebrity". Either they are victims, victimizers, or both.

There was a documentary released about the victims that I think was pretty close in timing to this show. At least I remember that I had watched the documentary not that long before, and I didn't watch Sticks and Stones right away.

As a parent, I have a hard stop on anything attempting to even "kind of" make pedophilia sound ok. Fuck Chapelle!

https://babylonbee.com/news/dave-chappelle-reads-from-biology-textbook-in-scandalous-new-netflix-special

U.S.—In a controversial new Netflix special, comedian Dave Chappelle does the unthinkable, pushing the boundaries of comedy further than they've ever been pushed before. Chappelle calmly gets up at the beginning of the show to cheers from the crowd, quietly opens a fourth-grade biology textbook, and begins reading.

"The X and Y chromosomes, also known as the sex chromosomes, determine the biological sex of an individual," he read.

"Boo!" shouted someone in the crowd. "This is way too far!" The fearless comedian pressed on.

"Females inherit an X chromosome from the father and receive an XX genotype. Males inherit a Y chromosome and thus have an XY genotype."

Screams erupted from the auditorium. A cat shrieked. People ran, trampling over each other. "I didn't mean to offend you!" Chappelle called out. "Please remain seated, ladies and gentlemen!" Everyone instantly dropped dead.

Dave is a pretty good philosopher as well as comedian:

12   WookieMan   2021 Oct 12, 5:13am

I'm fine with him. 99.9% of the comedians everyone has never even heard of have made edgy jokes. It's comedy. The goal is to make the crowd laugh and sometimes that involves jokes that everyone kind of agrees with, but wouldn't say it out loud, so they laugh.

You also have to remember this guy knows famous people everywhere in the world. If you don't think his jokes are based off life experiences or word of mouth stories or even witness something, you'd be crazy. In the beginning years these guys tour more than musicians do. Different cities 6-7 nights a week. Up til 2-3am every night. Making light of pedophilia is edgy, but maybe he's secretly telling the truth about what he knows?

I think a lot of people live sheltered lives and don't really realize how evil other people are and can be.

Having dealt with Yelp and running a business, I'm convinced most review sites are pure shit. One of the few I barely trust is trip advisor. Movies and shows are likely the production company paying bribes and it's a shit show/movie in reality.

I agree. Ability to read between the lines of reviews posted is a necessary commerce life skill.

I used Saul Alinsky tactics to get Yelp to apply their own woke standards to aggressively trying to sell me on premium Yelp services. This young woman wasn't taking no for an answer, even as I explained I am top in my niche and have organic top search results without a single keystroke of SEO effort or dime spent advertising in the last 10. She kept hitting hard, so I invoked NO MEANS NO and asked if she realized she has adopted the morality of a rapist, because I'm telling her no, no, no and she keeps going. A supervisor apparently heard the recording and reached out to me in extremely contrite damage control mode. I was polite and professional with him, discussed all of the above for a bit over 5 minutes, and we hung up on good terms. That's the story of how I got Yelp salespeople to stop calling me without them grudge-harming my Yelp profile in the process.

It's true today. IMDB used to be a great site until they sold out. They are a site I no longer use.

Netflix SIDES With Dave Chappelle, Goes Forward With Comedy Special Despite LGBTQ Controversy
People are getting suspended, but it's not what you would think...
17   EBGuy   2021 Oct 12, 6:47pm

From Variety:
Netflix Suspends Three Employees, Including Trans Person Who Spoke Out Against Dave Chappelle, for Crashing Leadership Meeting
Netflix has suspended three employees for crashing a meeting of its top executives, including an out trans person who criticized a new comedy special from Dave Chappelle, sources tell Variety.
Terra Field, a senior software engineer based in San Francisco, was among those suspended late last week for attending the “QBR” — Netflix’s quarterly business review, a two-day affair that convenes the top 500 employees at the company.
Field, who identifies as queer and trans, and the other employees were not invited to the virtual gathering, according to insiders. Netflix did not suspend Field over recent tweets decrying what she called anti-trans jokes in the Chappelle special, individuals familiar with Netflix said, but for attending uninvited. An investigation has been launched into the three employees.
18   HeadSet   2021 Oct 12, 7:43pm

So Netflix fears loss of Chappelle revenue more than any boycott by the LGBT crowd. Hopefully more companies wise up and see that this tiny minority has overplayed their hand. Next step, ridicule those college presidents and other idiots who submit by using pronouns in their signature blocks.
19   EBGuy   2021 Oct 12, 8:06pm

Terra Field returns:

Netflix has reinstated me after finding that there was no ill-intent in my attending the QBR meeting. I've included the statement I requested below.

I'm going to take a few days off to decompress and try to figure out where I'm at. At the very least, I feel vindicated. pic.twitter.com/lYxemYgRkJ

This is a good documentary to listen to on a long car drive. (Like a Bay Area commute).

Love the "Parental Advisory" sticker. The one Left-Liberals swore would destroy all art, comedy, music. The same ones who today want political speech by individuals with no power or celebrity censored.

If we enforced the same standards today back then, no Eddie Murphy, no Mel Brooks, no Aerosmith.
