Take a photo and add another photo in like a speech bubble? (I can do text, that part is easy)

No Russian ever called me a Cishet Scum White Male Oppressor.

I'm sure someone proficient with The Gimp could do it, but sadly I don't know it well enough.

https://www.gimp.org/ (bad ssl cert, but that's probably just an oversight)

I can do it. What photos do you want to blend? Send them to erikccccc@yahoo.com with instructions.

You use the lasso tool or polygon tool and create a bubble mask in a new layer. Set the outside to transparent, and load a picture, send the picture to the back under the mask. the original layer, the picture with the soldiers. Should now be on the outside of the bubble with the picture of Miss Finya Gitpayde in the bubble.

There's a lot of Gimp tutorials online.

To make the speech bubble, I would use a brush of large circles and make a "cloud" by printing a bunch of bubbles together against a white background. Then to clear out the center, I would use the selection tool to go 5-10 pixels in, and then clear that out as white.

I would then change white to the alpha channel (transparent).

I'm no expert with Gimp, but it's a powerful tool.

My directions were from memory way back when I was smitten with the Corel Suite, started in 4 to about version 9. Then they changed their structure to a subscription based model and then to the cloud. So I left graphics up to the people willing to go along with that stupid shit. I just write code now.

I've since toyed around with Gimp, but I didn't find is as robust and intuitive,(If you're used to the short cut keys, and menu nomenclature of Corel versions pre Version 9.)
Gimp is about 30% of what Corel was in its heyday.

I agree.

No one should ever subscribe to software or be dependent on cloud services which can be taken away in an instant.

I don't have any knowledge of Corel Draw so I cannot comment on it.

And I suck with Gimp, but I can get along with it. Gimp is horribly designed for its interface. Just drawing a line, or making a box, oh my god, but if you get competent with shortcuts, and are willing to learn, it's probably faster to work with then simpler tools where it's easy draw a line or make a box.

It's heavily dependent on the keyboard, and you have to know all the tools that are available to you. I've seen people do amazing crap with it, but for me, I'm not that interested in it. Same with Blender.

It also takes forever to load zillions of fonts

Just did this today using Mac Preview. Super basic tool, but more than adequate for almost any type of document manipulation.
